CPR Simulator by derstander

[raw]
made by derstander for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

It's ... not great. But I did it. I had big plans that were scaled back dramatically.

Coded in Godot. Art in Aseprite. "Music" in FamiTracker. SFX in BFXR.

Grats on your submission! I was going to ask "what BPM are you supposed to compress at for CPR again" and then the answer was "the same speed as the music". So I learned something today!

Awesome and really original idea + it reminded me that I would fail in rescuing a real human :) it could be a really good mobile game.

Not bad for what it is! Scoping is always tough in a jam.

It would be nice if the game didn't immediately start -- for example, if there was a countdown with a few beats that don't require clicks -- that way, the player has a chance to ready themselves. (Actually, playing a bit more, it does seem like my first 3 clicks don't register points or misses, so maybe you did do that already. It would just be clearer if it was a separate thing and the timer didn't start counting down. Maybe you wanted to do that but were pressed for time.)

I like that this is accurate to the actual BPM recommended for CPR. When a side effect of playing the game is entraining something that could help someone save a life, that's kinda cool :)

Great way to keep the game scope tight :)

I got a score of 26000 (I think that's good?) I'm a sucker for rhythm games though so even this lil game was fun for me to play.

I'm a composer and sound designer and a really liked the relation of the music and the gameplay. Good job! I got a 32000 points at first try, i hope it was a good score. Hahahah

I think it's not bad :) Some people don't know the right rythm, this is a fun way to find out :)

Yes, this project is very raw, but I definitely can see your idea! And it's pretty good. I didn't immediately understand that the matter was in the rhythm of the background sound, but then I began to quickly gain points.

I have no issue with the game other than sound could be slightly less harm for ears.

When time passed I was hoping to get next stage, kind of like "Dumb ways to die" mobile game ;)

Cheers!

When I finally realised you were trying to get 100 BPM I managed to rack up a score of 19500.

Having some sort of indication of what you were trying to do would have gone a long way to helping get to grips with the game more quickly. Once I got going I started to have fun but beyond once you figured it out there isn't much else to do. I would suggest throwing in some additional mechanics into the game, think ala Surgeon Simulator with strange things going on to make it more complicated.

* "I had big plans that were scaled back dramatically." Welcome to ludum dare!
* apparently clicking in time with a beat is a secret talent I didn't know I had, so thanks for bringing out the best in me.
* playing on a small resolution monitor, and I couldn't fit the whole game on screen at once. a fullscreen option or landscape mode would be nice. let me know if you want advice on how to do that in godot.
* It looks exactly like the dummies used for cpr training, nice artwork!

Haha. Nice work, despite your scaled-back plans :-D Took me a second to understand what was going on, but then I managed to...err...save the dummy? Or at least finish until the end of the countdown.

From BAD to AWESOME! Without seeing others' comments, I couldn't make it. :smirk:
