Keepin' up with the Sams by chispaLBC

[raw]
made by chispaLBC for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

You've been working really hard this week, but at the cost of neglecting your relationship with your wife. As a reward for your good job, you have a week off, and you are going to use it to keep the flame of passion alive.

Just be careful not to neglect your own body.

Take care of your needs while you recover the relationship you had with your wife. Every once in a while, your wife will have a "mission" for you. This mission lasts 2 hours if you don't accept it.

It will cost some of your needs. Be careful, you will lose if any of them reach 0. You have 7 days to win.

How to play:

  • Move with the arrow keys.
  • Left click to interact with objects or wife.
  • You can´t interact with an object that would make you lose.
  • Your wife's missions are only available for 2 ingame hours.
  • You only have 7 days to win.

Theme:

  • You have to keep yourself alive
  • You have to keep your relationship alive
  • Heavily inspired by "The Urbz" or "The sims busting out"

We may have some odd english here and there as it's not our first language.

Have fun :)

It felt a bit unrefined, but I can see where this was headed. Nice work.

Nice and short game. Also I'm surprised how well you managed to balance it in 72h. I found it very calm and relaxing. There is really nothing bad to say about this game. You set yourselves a goal and captured it perfectly.

Idea is nice. But preferred WASD-controls, because I'm righthanded.

Quite tricky to avoid wetting yourself! Funny game although I kept on accidentally missing the text because I would click too quickly on the wife, so they didn't feel like proper events. I enjoyed the weird look and you can see how it could be developed to become a full sims-inspired game with some more narrative. Cool stuff!

Interesting premise and as mentioned by @ion-programming, feels unrefined but I could see the intention. Good job overall :)

My love has been recovered
I think I went a couple days without sleeping just talking with my wife for hours then running to eat and immediately go to the washroom and then eat again and shower and then more wife talking. Very frantic, but very good!

I thought it was especially clever how you used the background to communicate the game state.

I really really loved this, the fine balance between needs feels to close to what taking care of yourself in real life is like hahaha

Great direction for the theme, the art style was cohesive and interesting, and I loved the music choice! Great work all around.

Great idea, fun implementation, loved the game over messages!

Found the controls a little difficult.

The gameplay is simple but works pretty well. It fits the theme right. I liked that there was a specific message for each game over, some of which were funny :) Maybe I would make the description of the action to be shown above the yellow circle, that way we don't have to glance at the bottom right corner to see what we the action is.
Keep up the good work !
