It feels strange that the character is always walking down by itself. This makes the movement feel heavy.
I found the sound to be a bit off, i think some more "fireplacey" guitar or harmonica sound might have suited your world better.
A cool sound effect could've been a loop of burning logs, and the closer you'd be to the fire, the louder it could be :)
Something to think about for your next entry is some sort of 2.5D collision detection. Right now, you can't walk "behind" a tree, the tree as a whole sprite collides with the avatar as a whole sprite.
But nonetheless a cool and well done entry, congratulations! :sparkles:
Here are my feedback:
_Positive points
- Cool graphic and post process
- The animation of the deer is really neat
- The compass system is quite nice
_Negative points
- The walk animation feels strange
Overall: gg for your work!
One thing I think would really improve the experience: since it's not directly top down, some hitbox adjustments would help make the world traversable (top of the player can move through tree hitboxes, etc to make it look like you move in front)
The things I liked:
- Graphics & shader/post-processing
- The mood after the first level
Suggestions:
- Some form of feedback for a sprint. How long can the player sprint?
- While foreshadowing things to come, the music felt too simple.
Otherwise great and unique entry!
The atmosphere is definitely interesting. Just run around, explore, and nourish your fire.
The movement was too slow though. And when running, you fall before the bar stamina bar gets to the end, so it's a bit tricky.
GG overall.
Pretty weird..."difficulty" curve, if you could call it that. The 1st loop felt just plain tedious, the 2nd loop went a bit faster since I knew where things were, and then the 3rd loop just seems...impossible? To be fair I didn't try for terribly long, but after collecting 3 sticks and then losing all of my progress via what seems to just be more or less random chance (?) I decided to quit while I was ahead...
Our entry also may or may not be definitely a horror game, if you'd like to check it out.
