Bonfire is a small puzzle game about a fire sprite wanting to find a cosy home. Help us keep it alive ❤

Words from us

  • Romain Huc: Third Ludum Dare and second finished game !! Hourray ! I was a pleasure to make Bonfire. Great idea, some fancy music experience ( yeah testing Computer/Ai generated music was something ), good visuals, and burning (lot of) trees has something oddly satisfying. I'm fine with the result, it exceed my expectations !
  • Colin Bellino: This was felt good from the beginning. I had fun with the theme and the art and we had time for a polish phase at the end because the gameplay loop was so simple. I wish we had time to make more levels though :o

Cute little game with nice graphics & audio. Really easy to pick up, the difficulty level is kept very low but it's still enjoyable. Good entry !

When you work 3 days straight, you tend to finish with weird commit names like this :o

I love this game. The art style is cute and distinct. The sound effects are fun, and given the limited time you did an awesome job exploring the different consequences of the puzzle mechanic. I also love the interpretation of the theme! Burning down huge chunks of forest is super satisfying so I'd love to see a score at the end of each level based on how many trees you burned down to encourage players to do so. Excellent job 5 stars

It was a really nice experience and overall a great game. It wasn't very challenging, but that's fine i guess.

Really clean and simple puzzler. A few more levels with a bit of a higher difficulty level would be a welcome addition! Slightly unsure if the SFX/Music are yours as I can't tell as you posted links to where you got some but you've kept yourself open to judgement on Audio? Let me know so I can adjust rating accordingly.

@sami i think that's fair, we should opt out of the audio category since we used some premade bits. I'll update that.

@tyrael @helenejeanbon @zoglu Thanks for the feedback <3 We definitely wanted to add more levels with a better difficulty curve. We are looking into adding more levels in the following days (i need to check the rules to see to what extend we can do this).

@ben-newington Glad you liked it! You are not the first one thinking this game could use a scoring system, it's going into our [backlog](https://trello.com/c/JpKSJcJT) :)

Great introduction of the game. Need more puzzles and a level editor ;).

This entry is simple, but well done. Core gameplay is easy to understand. But there isn't any distinctive indication of trees you have placed in the level.

The game is super clean and neat. Loved every level. Like as many pointed out, wished there was more. I had an idea of having trees with different burn rates to create more complex levels

21. Apr 2020 · 17:33 UTC
@artyom-volkov The selected cell changes color when you hover a tree you have placed (from red to blue), but the change is way to subtle i think, you are right :( Thanks for the feedback!

@grizzliusmaximus) Thanks ! We wanted to start with flowers that burnt quicker than trees but had to cut [that feature](https://trello.com/c/CYxtWX6P) to focus on the core and polish. But if we make this into a fully featured game that's definitely something we will add :)

It feels really complete and polished. Was a bit hard to know which trees I have placed or not (eventually I figured it out by the blue / green line). Thank you for the game, really enjoyed it.

Nice relaxing game, pretty straight forward but you could probably make some pretty hard puzzles with some more mechanics and work. Graphics are also nice and clear!

Nice concept and execution. Levels are well thought through but quite easy which is understandable in a LD game. One mechanic that comes to mind is to lead the fire to its destination but avoiding burning some other object. Even as it is it's a great game though!

Very fun concept and really well polished! With a few more mechanics explored over additional levels this would be a solid standalone game!

Simple idea, clean graphics and a few thrown in sounds (not in a bad way of course). Very solid entry. Its missing some challenging levels though

Really nice game here guys, I like the mood of it, it's kind of soothing. It looks very finished too. I would have liked more complicated challenges.

Here is a suggestion: add a second type of tree that takes 2 ticks to burn. Add goals that need more that one flame at the same time

Could use more levels and extra challenge as others have said, but it's still a nice puzzle game.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! We definitely wanted to add more challenging levels and mechanics but something had to be cut to make the deadline :D
Anyways, this is really encouraging and we will be thinking about making this into a commercial game later down the line. <3

Fun puzzle game! I like the simplicity of this game - it makes it a little more laid back and enjoyable. The puzzles ramped up in difficulty, but it never got to a point where it was 'difficult.' I'm sure that's something you'd implement if you had more time for the jam.
The music and sound effects were a little quiet, and I really wanted to hear more!

Great game, my only suggestion would be to make the trees you can place look slightly different from the pre-placed ones (I think it would help readability, especially if you are planning on some more complex levels down the line). I also love the effect for the trees growing in, it was a very nice touch.

I really liked it, it was fun and easy to pick up! Would have loved to see more levels, more complicated ones, and more mechanics (for example, explosive barrel that "teleports" the fire to all squares 1 square away). When the game ended I had a literal "awwww... :(" reaction! :D

A pretty little puzzle game! Was very enjoyable.

I think adding some distinction between the trees player places and ones that were already on the map would be useful. Forgot, where I placed my trees on one level and had to hover over a bunch and look around for the blue square.

Really neat little idea and new approach to the theme. The mood is really calm and relaxing and I had really nice time with your game. Although I would love to see bit few chalenging levels, but I can imagine how balancing this can be hard in such a short time of a game jam, so this is hardly a complaint. Overall very good job, I liked it a lot! Thank you

This game has very little gameplay, but it feels like a good basis for some nice mechanics. I've read your post about wanting to turn this into a commercial game. Good luck.

In any case, well done with this work. Despite not a lot of gameplay, everything seems rather polished. Keep up the good work.

Nice little game. I love that pixel-art style.

I think tutorial should be more intrusive... At the moment the instructions are small text and on the side - kind'a hard to notice. You can make it bigger and blinking.. Or maybe place it in the middle of the screen just to make sure the player knows the basics.

Also, when you have right-mouse click involved, it makes sense to introduce an alternative with left click + alt/meta/ctrl. That way, players with touchpads are also will be able to play.

@elysiagriffin no, thank you ! It was a blast seing you play it on stream :)

@invader the instructions were added as a last minute fix hehe. We were not sure if players would understand the main mechanics, most people did though.
I'm not a big fan of text tutorials and i generally go for a more hands off approach. I like to let people play around with the game in easy/tutorial levels so they understand the mechanics by them self.
It's absolutely someone i'm adding to our feedbacks list though.

For the right click, that's a really good point, not everyone can right click on their touch pad. That's an accessibility problem i'm going to fix in the full release for sure !

Thanks a lot for the feedbacks.

That was really cute, but definitely too easy ahah. A bummer - I feel like there would have been potential for trying to find the best way to light the bonfire - like using the minimal amount of resources, or trying to burn down the entire island in the process. Or the opposite, burning the least trees.

Either way, it feels polished and working well! You could easily expand on this!
