Lightest Dungeon by gagouman

[raw]
made by gagouman for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Third Ludum Dare, first time with Unity and still learning so the scope of the game ended up being smaller than expected, but I think I still ended up with a fun game.

It's a strategy game Darkest Dungeon style, where you control heroes of your kingdom by sending them on different quests to save the princess of the kingdom from her illness. You need to manage their exhaustion, recruit new heroes and upgrade them while keeping your fortune from decreasing.

Tools used - Unity (Engine) - Aseprite (Graphics) - Paint.NET (Graphics) - Bfxr (Audio) - Abundant Music (Music)

How to play Only the mouse is used to play the game, there is an in-game tutorial that will appear when you first start the game.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, enjoy!

Edit: Fixed Aspect Ratio bug on smaller screens.

Cool idea! Some of the UI was off screen for me so it was a little confusing but I managed to figure it out.

@micahlg Thanks for the kind words! I noticed there was a UI problem with different aspect ratios than 16:9, I uploaded an update so that now there will be black bars around, but at least all the UI is visible!

Funny game ! Nice mechanics that worked well on an RPG fan like me =D
I wouldn't mind having a bigger text font though, but considering it's 5 am here I'm not sure the game is to blame x)

Interesting ideas here. The sprites were could. Would have been nice to see the heroes in action.

Fun game, but man do I suck at it! I can't seem to figure out how to build up my recruits without losing too much money. I may just be stupid though. I had fun!

Seems like a really complex system for compo 48hrs, well done. I enjoy the game and like the fact the art style is coherent.

I feel like some of the internal logic was off. In attempting an Easy mission I was given 'Extreme Risk' assigning two villagers, but 'low risk' assigning only one.

@brenno263 Thanks for trying it out, I had other people make the same comment to me as well, the logic is correct, but is not explained to the player correctly. The risk means the risk of having one of your heroes die, so if you select a second hero that is really exhausted to go on the quest, the risk of that hero dying is high, hence why it's showing a higher risk with 2 instead of 1! :)

A good start, not sure if there is a random generator but some of the recruitable heroes seemed a little weak. Maybe I was just unlucky? (2 atk?) Keep up the work, good art work.

Great job, I enjoy these types of game and would love to see it expanded! With a bit more work this would be a great little game.

This is a really cool game. I love the story. The amount of quests you made in such a short time is remarkable. I'd love to see this in post LD

I got 890 in 65 weeks!

Felt a bit grindy and lacking in variety, but nice to see something a bit more strategic or with RPG elements.

Seemed to be more saving the princess than keeping the princess alive - maybe you could use the princess's health to drive the player to risk more dangerous missions, would also be nice if you had a bit more variation than just pass / fail - maybe get the reward but lose a hero or something like that.

I found it super difficult, but judging from the winners in the comments above I just didn't have enough patience to make progress in the early part of the game. I liked the art and the interface was clean and clear.
