DUƎL by JLV
DUƎL is a short action-puzzle game composed of a single boss fight.
Dash an place your gems to create a triangle loop around your fated enemy. Victory is in sight...

Controls
Arrows / WASD : Move your character
Space : Dash. A gem will be placed at the end of your dash.
Enclose items and enemies inside a triangle of gems and see what happens...
Tip : The balance is (not so slightly) off, and the game might come off as overly difficult. It all becomes easier if you spam the dash, as it provides invincibility frames. The boss only has three lives...you can do it !

and the idea has the potential to be developed into a fun arcade game
How did it feel to try out a more action-y kind of game this time around?
@peachtreeoath It was much more fun to test and debug, but the initial design process was less entertaining : pure game design is not really my thing...
@obi-one The loop is present in two places : the triangle you need to build is kind of a loop by itself, even if it's the most basic geometrical close shape one can think of. There is also a nod to the theme in the "ending scene".
Here are my feedback:
_Positive points
- Nice pixel art
- Intresting and clever usage of the theme with the triangles
- Nervous gameplay
- Good sound design
_Negative points
- The enemy is a bit too speed just after the first blow, so it makes the timing tight for me
Overall: Nice work!
At least it's a playable game for a Jam 😁
Good job
In terms of *gameplay*, the concept here feels really fresh and intriguing. Dodging the enemy becomes the attack, and I definitely feel like this could be developed into something really interesting. Given your time constraint, you obviously weren't able to explore this too much, and it's unfortunate, since the concept of this kind of puzzle-like combat is quite unique. But this definitely stands as a nice proof of concept!
The *audio* was surprisingly developed for a 24 hour game! Especially the music that plays when fighting the boss was really well made. I also liked the duality of the interpretation of the *theme*, both in the gameplay and in the quite surprising ending.
Overall, this game definitely feels unique and interesting, but I was left wanting more! But with consideration to your time limit, this is still a well made game.
By the way, spamming the spacebar somehow damages the boss and opens the door.
