Life Aber Die by cometoverdrive

[raw]
made by cometoverdrive for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

The objective in Live Aber Die is to keep your overloads alive by feeding them food that falls from the sky. WASD, analog stick, or D-Pad should work for movement. Space bar, or the bottom face button on a controller (A for Xbox, X for Playstation) will jump. Just knock your body into the food and watch it fly.

Simple game, but it takes some time learn how to play it efficiently. None bugs spotted, everything works well :)

Absolutely loved it! Simple gameplay, but difficult to master none the less, in particular figuring out just the right way to knock the food once the overlords got very low. I also loved the nice touch where you get eaten if you run into their mouths.

Nice game. The graphics are cute and effective. Whole thing is very nostalgic of arcade games. With just a little ramping of difficulty it could be a real gem.

It's a simple idea but the execution is fantastic. The controls are super tight and crisp. Also those faces are absolutely terrifying for some reason.

Well done. Sweet mechanics and gameplay. Maybe its my clumsiness but i can't figure it out feeding them when they are below about 30-40% height. My highscore is 155!

No idea why it was crashing after about a minute of gameplay, but here we are. It's a really neat and simple idea executed well enough (you know, *feel-wise*, as the platforming and knocking items was fun). Not really sure what's the failure here is (maybe the thing that was crashing the game, I'm not sure), but I didn't see any indication of that. Not a bar that would fill up, not the faces reaching the point in any obvious way. Anyway, kinda nice game, really wish I wasn't experiencing crashing and could play it a bit more

@juice-lizard I'm really sorry I wasn't able to get Mac/Linux builds working! My game engine is a work in progress and there were just enough issues that I couldn't get it working.

@apple-dash I wish I knew what was causing it to crash! I'm sorry you had those issues, but I'm glad you enjoyed what you did play.

A very cute and fun game.
I noticed the high score does not reset when you fall of the stage, but the game ran smoothly anyways.

Cool small game. Maybe the hitboxes of the faces is a little small.

@phoenix-fireflower wow I can't believe I didn't notice the score doesn't reset haha. Such an easy fix too, my bad.

Solid platformer with a good bit of physics in there. Two things I have is that there should be more of an advantage to keeping both heads alive, and there should be more obstacles that prevent you from staying near the middle.

The game gets much easier when one head dies, and all you do is wait in one spot for the food to fall so you can bounce it into their mouths.

Love how there are 2 different death endings, 1 reached from from falling or killing the heads, the other from getting eaten which is pretty funny. Simple and great design well tied with the theme, nice job!

A fun game that fits the theme well with cute graphics and good sound effects. I feel like the bouncing height of the food seems to go pretty high which for me made it hard to aim but I might just suck at the game.
