Save the pointer! by onesvenus

[raw]
made by onesvenus for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

This is my entry for the Ludum Dare 46 competition with the "Keep it alive" theme and my first Ludum Dare!

Save the pointer is a small browser game with trippy visuals and music where you have to keep the pointer alive avoiding to collide with the circles that are drawn on the screen.

With 10 seconds per level, each level increases the difficulty.

How long will you be able to last?

Great game. Although it can be frustrating when a new circle appears too close to the pointer, but there isn't much that can be done about it in a few hours. Love the simplicity!

Great game, great music!

I found it frustrating when a circle appeared under my mouse pointer. It would be cool if there was some kind of like sonar thing where we could see where a new circle would be appearing. Would also be interested in seeing my high score.

Yup @mrfluffysheep about the circles appearing under the mouse pointer, I can see that... unfortunately I didn't have time to fix that.
Great ideas about the sonar and the high score!

Simple game! I got to level 5. I know you opted out of audio, but the track was a good choice to create the mood.

Hi there, here's my feedback..

I would be nice to have something like a score that increases every second that would multiply by my size. So the bigger I manage to stay with more rings, the more score I get. As it is right now, there is no reason for to grow in size as 1 ring or 10 ring doesn't matter except make it harder for the player to sustain.

I would love to see some feedback effect when I get hit, like particle effect or screen shake.

After you die and restart the game, it says level 1 but the difficulty is not reset.

Good job, it was fun :)

Thanks for the feedback @saeedprez . You can be touched by as many circles as rings you have although as there's no invencibility period when you get touched, a lot of times circles go away all together.

I did think about the score thing, let's see if I have time to do that and thanks about the bug!

@onesvenus that is what happened, I got hit once and all my circles went away.

It's a good idea with an invincibility period.

Good luck.

Oh man, you should have allowed me to rate audio, I liked the music. I got to level 4 before getting hit! Great job!

Creating an spawn interdiction within a few units from the cursor would be greatly appreciated. Spawncamping a'int fun. Overall a tremendously addictive game. Music would have been nice.

Are you able to move through the circles as they fade out? It seemed like sometimes I could and sometimes I couldn't.

Very simple game but fun none the less! The shield mechanic was pretty sweet although it would be nice to have some visual/audio feedback when you lose/gain a ring. Overall coooooool game. Nice job!

I like the game but there's no incentive to collect the white circles because it's easier to not collect them. I would recommend adding a scoring system or make it so the player has to collect the rings.

simple but fun! I agree that you should add some kind of a score system. Also concerning the graphics - it might be fun to add some kind of an overlay effect onto the circles, so that when they interact the intersecting colors are different, this would make it a little more interconnected.
