Parallel Spin by perpetuaReality

[raw]
made by perpetuaReality for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Blue is you. If you touch Red, you lose. You can only spin in preset levels, jump between levels, and change the way you spin.

Each movement you take spends energy. (Green gives you more energy! But use it wisely.)

How long can you stay in the game for? 2.gif 1.png 2.png

Interesting concept and well executed. Unfortunately it appears that if you press space to swap directions it resets the game. Was this intentional?

Really neat idea! I'd be curious to see how this concept could be used to create more interesting gameplay. Reminds me of chemistry class (i mean that in a good way). I wonder if you could incorporate obstacles or puzzles to make it more interesting.

Very nice game! I like the energy mechanic, since it makes you really think about your moves.

@the-enigma Thank you! And it's not intentional, no! Did that happen at the beginning of the game? Was it after clicking on the "Start game" button? Was the Reset button greyed out?

@mikew Thank you! As a matter of fact, I took inspiration from the planetary model of the atom for this! I wanted to have some kind of allegory for I don't know a nuclear core and alpha radiation but it fell through. I want to continue iterating upon this so maybe in the near future I'll introduce more mechanics!

Thanks for the feedback!

@perpetuareality After checking again, if you start the game by pressing space it works as intended but if you click on the start button with the mouse it resets if you then press space in the game

I really like the conservation-of-energy mechanic in a dodgeball game. It's a really nice innovation that makes gameplay feel meaningful.

The graphic design is sooo satisfying.

If anything, I think the SFX is a bit loud. I jumped out of my seat when I first lost, haha.

Nice work! Looking forward to your next entry!

@jdeedubs Thank you!!! I'm glad you liked the graphic design because I spent a while on it. And yeah the SFX was the part I was most unsatisfied by on the final product, because I didn't find an effective way to effect volume in time.

Thanks for the feedback!

Gave me some good Super Hexagon vibe, you should upgrade music and visual but can be a good game

Fun little game! Sometimes it was hard for me to focus on a particular line, I might have found it easier if the lines had been graded in colour/thickness, but maybe that is part of the challenge and the minimal graphic design

I had the same issue with pressing spacebar reseting the game, its an interesting mechanic very simple but fun to beat your highscore. Good job.
