Blood Drive by Tyler Miller

[raw]
made by Tyler Miller for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Thank you for clicking on my game!

In this game you are a uh.. capsule person? tasked with protecting the cardiovascular system (cough tube thing), perhaps the loop that is the most important to humans.

Can you make it through all 10 rounds of this 3rd person shooter?

Looking for any feedback you have, good or bad. I can take it!

Controls:

  • wasd movement
  • mouse to rotate camera
  • left mouse button to fire

Background:

This is my second Ludum Dare, I did one a few years ago in college. Haven't had as much time since I started full time work to practice game making but this was a lot of fun and got me motivated. I hit a ton of the checkboxes I was trying to accomplish and I am proud of my entry, given my experience.

I updated a single bit in the Unity editor that was causing the inverted axis

To be honest, I found this very disorienting and difficult to play. The perspective is sort of isometric (ie. looking down at the character diagonally from above) but it controls like a third person shooter. Except the horizontal axis was flipped, so you move your mouse right to go left, and left to go right. I've never seen this before, and found it very offputting. Otherwise, it seemed like a fairly standard wave based shooter, with some mild tower defence elements. Not overly keen, but I suspect some small changes like moving the camera lower and fixing the look would make it much more playable.

The main issue is the camera controls, they are the opposite of most standard 3rd person games. Other than that solid entry!

I had fun with this one. Controls took a bit to get use to and the offset gun was hard to get use to. The title screen was quite stunning I like it a lot.

The controls got a bit of getting used to, but it was part of the challenge in playing. It's very enjoyable once you get the hang of it. Well done :)

I loved that you added turrets (THEY HELPED :D). The camera controls were abit off but I got used to it pretty quickly. It's a fun game once you get your head aroudn the controls. for a 2nd LD wiht not much practice i'd be happy :) :V:

Cool game, congrats ! Making a 3D game for a gamejam is bold I think, nice job.
I loved the animation when you die with the blood that comes down, James Bond style ;)

This game was a bit rough, the camera controls and aiming seemed a bit off but the game was easy enough, after you have 4 turrets you just have to get the blood and fill it in your tank. I did love the look of the health bar, that was really nice!

The design was good giving both a pickup to replenish your blood supply and the single upgrade-able turret. The control scheme felt a like twin stick shooter, that’s a hard thing to do with mouse and keyboard. Fun idea.

I liked the overall mood of the game. It's a jam game and it is obviously apparent that it needs a lot of improvement. Controls are the biggest issue of the game. Why do we have the mouse if shooting direction is done with keyboard etc. I think if you put in the time now after the jam and improve these ideas and actually make a narrative out of the game, it could be quite fun to play. Good job :)

I really liked this game. I know you're aware of the problems with the controls, so I'll talk about other things. When used to the controls, this was fun to play. Graphics and sounds wise it conveyed a clear mood, which was fun. I liked the upgradable turrets as a feature, and the game was just pretty cool overall.
