I liked the concept, too, it was quite straightforward but it works well. It took me a while of trial and error to figure out exactly what I needed to do and how, but after that the loop is clear.
The "lose" detection also seemed to trigger a bit too early. I got the "Lose" screen while I could still see the fire had some fuel left.
In any case, cool job! :D

I've fixed ( so I hope ) most of the jank - so now the counter, the lose screen, the fox and the general game mechanics work properly. I should have done a JAM instead of a Compo, as most of the broken stuff was panicing in the submission hour. :scream:
But your game is much better.
It was tricky to unserstand at first, but once you find the controls, it's lots of fun.
Cheers
Anyhow, congratulations on a solid entry! Well done!
Still, amazing job!
Note2: I don't know who Keith Flint is
Pros:
- Pretty moody sounds and graphics, that also look and sound nice
- Clearly defined end goals and easy to understand gameplay without tutorial
- Seems to follow a certain theme of a singer. Unfortunately I don't know him, but bonus points for that anyway
- Short gameplay, which is pretty good for the jam when there are quite a lot of games
Cons:
- Above average amount of bugs
Overall it's a nice clean game. It didn't go too crazy with features or inovations, but it did fit culture references, solid gameplay, nice graphics/music, cute fox enemy and pretty much all you need for basic gaming experience. Gameplay innovation wise I don't think this game cloned anyone, but this jam quite a lot of games did use "go get item and then throw it in the fire, so that it keeps burning" core mechanic. Otherwise innovation wise this game did nicely on the mood part as I never saw anyone try to incorporate culture and also it had that nice night horrorish mood.
Really liked the pacing and the humor.
Overall it's a really solid entry, ticking all the boxes!
Art and music are very good.
Nice job
Also - that smiling face is hauntingly marketable :D
@bloham - It might be the assets or something didn't load completely in your browser? firefox/chrome do a hard refersh CTRL+SHIFT+F5 and try again. The newer one isn't using any different method for shaders etc.
The gameplay didn't feel very engaging. Because both kicking trees and throwing wood was done for me, it felt more like a "running back and forth simulator" And as such it was completely fine - I didn't run into any bugs or trouble. I wish I could kick the theiving deer though...
Nice arts in general.
The tasks are a bit obscure at the beginning but I fastly got used to it :fox:
Pretty cool game overhaul, short but pretty fun ! Keep up the good work !
Overall, damn fine graphics and music
After playing it a few times and winning, the mechanics are still a mystery to me! What does the fox do? Where exactly do you need to place yourself to hit a tree? Is the hit efficiency random?
I did not need to know everything to enjoy it though. The art is great, the music is nice, visual and audio feedback are there, and what I liked the most : the win and lose condition are very clear.
Thanks for the game!
