I love the artstyle, reminds me of Edmund McMillens games in that. The sound design is great, especially the voice over is really well done, that's something not many people attempt and you done so well at it! It's so satisfying when you get into a clump of souls and destroy them all at once haha. After I got my upgrades it felt like I was unstoppable, especially because the health refill cost only 4000 maximum.
Overall awesome entry, good job!
Thought the push-your-luck mechanics worked incredibly well, both with the gameplay and with the theme. The game definitely requires some skill and I almost gave up at one point, but it's one of those where once you get in a rhythm it makes you feel like a boss :sunglasses:
The comparisons to devs like Behemoth and Edmund McMillen are pretty accurate and I think this has the quality to be compared to them v favourably! Great stuff!
This looks like a real game you could sell on Steam, all is perfect, from the art to the music or the gameplay. It's a real fun game, well balanced but pretty challenging.
Congratulation, this is the best work I've seen from now on.
One thing I found was that the difficulty mainly scaled with the number of upgrades you got. While a good challenge when you are trying to get as many upgrades as you can, you can just get upgrade 5 (extra souls so you can afford the increased life cost) and wait out the timer with minimal obstacles. What might work better is if the obstacles came in gradually as the timer neared the end (probably just my opinion). Then again, having the difficulty go up as you upgrade does make this game have more strategy when you have to consider your first few upgrades will be a double-edged sword.
Overall there is a lot of replay value in this game and it was really fun!
Amazingly done!
I really enjoyed the challenge, and trying to get all upgrades as fast as possible.
The voice acting made me laugh, i'm glad you kept it the way it is!
@twistashio Thanks so much! I think I might do some tutorials in the near future. I'm so glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback!
...And it's your first shot at a jam?! WOW, just wow! This is the game I'll probably remember best from Ludum Dare 46
I found a bug where I could get hurt in the soul-hole, if I paused it when a spiked ball was directly on top of me.
Overall this was amazing, you've got a winner in your hands good job!
Stylistics, animation and a scene with voice acting!
Cartoon voice acting is just incredible. I take off my hat in front of the sound actor.
The game is clear and fun, I'm happy to play for 15 minutes and I'm not bored)
I also like how all the bodies pile up. Is there a limition of how many bodies are piling up or how does this work, if I may ask?
Also, I loved the voice overs and the fact that you left some mistakes in there (or intentionally put them there) made it even funnier.
It's really cool how awesome you feel by the end just reaping hundreds of souls :D
First game to get a perfect score from me
Great graphic art similar to Binding Of Isaac as well as the voice. One of the best game i tried in this jam.
Feels like the end goal should maybe just be to farm 200k souls or something like that, rather than wait for a timer to go down, or something?
Aside from that, this was pretty fun! The main strategy was just holding both right and left click and summoning a line of guys and immediately mowing them down, which proved to be quite effective, especially with the right upgrades.
Nice job on your first LD!
