A Fistful of Daisies by Norris Eldridge
I was unfortunately very delayed this year so I didn't actually start the project this time around until around 10pm last night. So, considering I managed to get something developed and up in under 24 hours, I'm happy, bugs and all.
I think the added time constraint this time really made me focus in on just trying to keep it as simple as possible though I still fell victim to scope creep along the way. I wanted to get full controller support in for this game and I was very close to having it working but the additional polish time needed to getting it working just wasn't worth it. Hopefully next LD Jam I'll make some time to get a solid controller experience together.
Any who, all the music and sound effects were made in FL Studio. This was actually my first time developing on a Windows Machine in a long time and I'm still very new to FL Studio. That also considered, I'm pretty happy with my Western Soundtrack I put together.
I used Aseprite for the art and this is a Unity project.
The gameplay is incredibly simple and gear towards just trying to survive as long as possible and try to make sure the bandits don't steal your beautiful flower. This is no win state but I definitely look forward to hearing some high scores in the comments. I suck so I usually only managed to fight off maybe 15 or so bandits.

You know, I had considered holding versus pressing the mouse each time and to me the rapid click adds to the chaos of it so I ultimately landed on going this way. That said I think I've gotten that feedback before so maybe I'm the only one lol
Thanks for playing my game, David! And thanks for the positive feedback!
I also wish there was a "Skip Text" button, but hey! 24 hours? Great work!
And there's an intro too! Love this entry!
Also, the fact that you did this in less than a day... wow. Props to you!
P.S. My entry is sort of a similar take on the theme, so I x2 loved to see yours.
@quinn-patrick Yeah, that's totally fair! I rush put in bourbon bottles for the bandits to drop that with give you a heart. I agree that the health system in general was a bit underdeveloped and not terribly clear. I basically put something in to get it functional but didn't ever get around to really tuning it. In hindsight, I think a simple health bar would have likely been more clear than that hearts. That's probably something I'd change if I were to go back and iterate on this one.
@jonathanjoseph Same! I really wish I had more time to had more content. Different types of enemies and environments. I think it could be really fun and hilarious to essentially turn this into an Oregon Trail type game where you have to escort this flower across the country. Along the way bandits are trying to steal it and there could be river crossing missions, snowy mountain levels, etc. Who knows? Maybe I can make some time to do that as a post jam version :)
@theartifacts Yeah I agree, its a bit of a stretch on the theme but in all honesty I really wasn't feeling the theme. I had originally thought about starting the game as a farming simulator game and then suddenly ninjas would bust in and steal all your crops so it just totally goes against where you think the game is going. I figured a lot of folks would be doing farming games this time around so throwing in some good ol fashioned subversion is nice. As you can see though I strayed pretty much immediately from that concept though as I knew I wouldn't have enough time to develop it.
@sndr Thanks! Yeah, I always feel that setup is really important. I tend to focus on polish early. That usually means I have a game that isn't terribly unique or interesting concept-wise but is at least pretty polished. I will definitely go check yours out!
I loved this concept and execution, nice work!
Your game is really great especially compared to all the similar games this jam. The ART!
The pixel art fit the game perfectly and creates a retro feel. The Music! Nothing to say but it is AMAZING!!
And the game play is nothing short of flawless. Very few bugs and it not super hardware intensive. Only gripe is the AI seem to have God Aim, lol. Otherwise the game is great and cant wait to see more from you
Gameplay feels like its missing something, some deepnes maybe in mechanic. But overall its really cool game. Good job.
Thanks for playing my game and for your feedback!

I would have liked to see maybe some particle effects when the bullets hit the enemies and something many people forget that I think adds a ton to the game feel is screen shakes, when shooting and when the you hit something.
(Also the music fit the game really well)
Otherwise really nice!
Controls were very smooth and the sound is on point.
I just hoped the intro would be passed after the first time, so I can retry faster and not have to wait the whole intro
