You must water the Ubergine until it is fully grown whilst keeping the hipsters that are trying to eat it at bay!

Arrow Keys or Left Stick - Move Dingus

WASD or Right Stick - Move Gundog

Gamepad support is basic so you have to use the D-Pad in menus, sorry!

Had a lot of fun making this!

Made with Monogame

Quick Note I'm trying to sort out the EXE so it won't get flagged up by Windows but I'm new at this! 😂

This is my favorite game I have played thus far! I don't know.... how or why you got these ideas, but I am so thankful you did. The faces on the eggplant will truly haunt my dreams. Great job you brilliant, disturbed people. An absolute masterpiece.

Cute entry, best game name ever :)
It was quite hard to cut my brain in two sides in order to control the two guys, didn't manage to finish the game but idea was really interesting. Good job !

I love the art, sound, music, and visual design here. Controlling two things at once is challenging, but I got used to it after a bit. The gun powerups are really fun. I couldn't help thinking one of the bad guys was Kevin Smith, although I don't know if he likes eggplant. Very cool game, plenty of fun.

@dob Thanks man! You are correct the sprinting vegan is Kevin Smith!! I'm a big Smod fan and he has recently gone Vegan following the heart attack. Good spot :v:

I dont know whats with the hipsters, handsome eggplant or flying beaver but after playing I'd like to know the lore.

Amazing art, music and sounds.

I liked the challenge of controlling 2 characters at once but it was hard for me to get to the end. I chose the strat of doing vertical movement with the beaver and normal movement with the dude.

I kind of thought everyone was done making fun of hipsters??

The game, though. Wow. Really, really fun, and the art on the eggplant was really something behold!

Nice job!

Exceptional, just exceptional. The graphics are great, the gameplay is great, the challenge ramps up in a smooth way, it's just a good game all around. I will admit it's quite short, but I guess short and sweet is the real definition of Ludum Dare!

I love the concept, it's like a tower defense game but with really cool innovations. I like how you need to multitask and I sometimes pressed the wrong keys to move the character I wanted to, but that's not the game's problem, it's actually a good thing, I hope you continue working on it!

the game feels great, theme is on point, art is amazing and the dual controller is working like a charm once used to, really well made

Cool game! Beat it after my second play! Love the vibe, made me laugh forsure. Gameplay-wise there are some things I would suggest:

-Allow the player to try the characters while the instructions are shown. This gives the player a chance to get used to the controls before being thrown into the game.

-Give some knockback to the bullets. Would make it feel more impactful and add a bit more strategy

-Allow the player to cancel the water gathering animation. Felt pretty helpless when guys just spawned right next to me when getting water

Overall, great game, I loved it! Cheers!

This game is hard! It looks innocent enough, but the aubergine-hungry rowdies soon overwhlemed my… hermit farmer and hoverpack-gun-dog? Great team the two of them anyways! And the upgrades are super satisfying. Plus I really like ~~eggplant~~ aubergine.

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone ♥ 😁

@dummydojo Thanks for the suggestions! The game would really benefit from them. Especially the 1st point about player controls. I'm already asking the player to try split their brain in half so giving them some time to practice would be fair :p Lesson leared! Thanks for the review!

WOW. What a game. I didn't know who Dingus or Gundog were before - and I still don't now, but I love them! Really great animation when they're running/flying. The water looks sparkly and the aubergine looks hideous in the best way possible. Good progression with the gun upgrades. Plus the damage effects and music/sfx - very satisfying. Managed to complete it on the third try - I really wanted to defeat those hungry dudes! Played it on controller and my mind was in an elevated state of being managing both characters and the controller. Well done all.

Excellent game. I had a lot of fun playing it and it really pushed my multitasking skills to the limit. The art was amazing, the movement and controls were solid, and the music was catchy. Everything about this game screams polish and refinement. Out of all the games, I have played over this Jam, this game has been the most polished. Additionally, it's really nice to see another game made with Monogame during this Jam. I don't see too many Monogame made games anymore which is quite sad. We need to keep Monogame alive. Your game is an excellent example of how powerful Monogame can be.

Look, I'm just saying, you could have had anything more believable than a gundog. It could have been dingus' brother. It could have been anything but a gundog. But you chose a gundog. And I think that's wonderful. More games need gundogs. I'm going to put the idea of a gundog in my pocket for later use.

Oh, the game? Yeah it was great! The animations were smooth, the art style worked, the music was an absolute bop, and that eggplant sure had faces that caused emotions in my brain. I don't have much to complain about. I wish there was more to play I guess, I feel like I was really getting into it by the time I beat it. But that's a good problem to have. Great job!

The graphics for this are great but my favourite part has to be the faces on the ubergine! Such a fun and silly concept that works as such a fun game! Controlling the two characters was challenging to begin but that's all part of the experience and fun! One of my favourite game ideas so far! Well done!

I like this concept. The game is so hard, didn't manage to beat it. Also it reminds me of old browser games, where you can play with your friend together on the same keyboard. Also, I think, players should be highlighted somehow, because you can easily loose the sight of them. Anyway, it is a very fun game and I enjoyed playing it

Amazing game!

This was really funny! Great art and very interesting choice for a plant. My brain got a little confused having to control two players, but that's more my own fault xD. It had a nice progression with the weapons and the increasing spawn rate of the enemies, plus their variety.

Awesome game! The art was stunning and all the controls were really smooth. I had a lot of fun with this one. I think the game could really benefit from some particle effects, and maybe the difficulty could be decreased a little since I got bombarded by enemies after a few minutes.

Honestly though, this was hilarious. You guys are a credit to society.

Really nice game you made here. It was fun and it looked great. Controlling two characters at once was challenging but it worked very well with the concept. I appreciate that this was more than just a shooter with something to protect. I also liked the fact you get upgraded as it gets harder. Great entry!

I liked the animations, but the gameplay drove me insane, because I'm really bad at fast action games like that. Regardless, kudos for implementing gameplay and wich a replay factor - rare in jams.

5* for Dingus. I have a question- are you right or left-handed? Ambidextrous? I am right-handed and have little to no coordination- oh this game messed with me- even tried crossing my hands on the keyboard! So I found a friend to play. Much more manageable! Maybe not intended, but I really had fun with this as a local 2P. Great character designs. Thank you for the weapon power ups- Would love 4-way fire- at least, but get that the LR fire is part of the challenge. Love the character design- Gundog is my new fav. And that engorged Ubergine!!! Fabulous little world here. Also, really appreciated the menu and especially the full-screen option! Thanks for the game!

@joemid I am right handed 🙂 If I were to do it again, I would probably let the player choose which set of keys controls each character 😛 It's very nice to hear you played it with a friend 😁 My parents had to co-op it also haha! Thanks for the great review!

Great entry! Had a very polished feel it. The core mechanics worked great and the controls felt super responsive. I also liked the twin-stick-twist to control two characters at once. Good way to get some hand-to-brain-workout going :) The art was on point, really enjoyed the creepy/strange nature of it. Stylistically, everything seemed to be thought out. The upgrade system was a nice touch to and helped make progression a real thing in this small scope.

The game is rather short and the level itself is pretty straight forward. Would've been nice to have some more intricate levels with nooks and crannies and maybe a real skill upgrade tree. Lots of potential to build upon. I enjoyed the ride. Keep it up!

I liked the dual hand controls - reminded me of Goats on the Bridge. Music was coll and set the mood nicely. fun and quite polished!

The only thing that felt confusing to me is that enemies could hit the soil just anywhere and hurt my aubergine. I mean, It was on the very top and they hurt it by hitting at the very bottom - maybe they were causing tremors ;). First time I let them just go there to the bottom, thinking "Pfff, idiots, what can they do there?". And it turned out that a lot

Ohhh I feel like i got a lot better at multi-tasking now! :D Was extremely hard at beginning, but with every time I managed to survive longer and longer. I absolutely love games where i need to make 2 different things at the same time, totally serious. It's a good exercise. Controls were very smooth, i will try to play on gamepad next time.
Also I do wonder how fun it would be to play it in co-op. Was it supposed to by palyes by either 1 or 2 players?
