One thing I'd add as improvement is the collisions of the balls with the bullets, some of those are a bit dodgy and.. I just wanted to hit those bugs! :see_no_evil:
Your game is beautiful!
I loved the idea that you always have to return to the sun to recharge some energy :) (I know I know for the plant, but strictly gameplay-wise speaking, it doesn't matter :)) The graphics were cute and looked very polished!
Truly a great achievement for a gamejam!
I'd add a controller support for the post-jam version if I were you, would make the whole thing much more intuitive and comfy to play (for example I almost never used the dodge, because with a keyboard it's much more awkward, while a controller is designed towards the shape of your hands and makes reacting more intuitive :))
I'd also add Levels (I know, never enough time with a gamejam ^^) like you have to go to a certain point, or maybe the goal could be to make the light go to a certain point? maybe you have to obtain something to place it somewhere so the sunray moves to the next checkpoint or something?
Also I think some feedback to give the plant more sun would be nice, like some noise or something :) It would also be cool if the plant maybe wouldn't die as quick, but the more health the plant has, the more advantage you have (like your shots or speed or something) but when it's below a certain percentage the player notices a disadvantage
Again, great achievement for a gamejam, you can be proud of yourselfes :)
There's not much depth and the difficulty ramps up quickly, but that's totally understandable for a jam game. With some more powerups/upgrades, levels, and enemies, I think this could definitely be a fun browser game that I'd play all the way through. (I also agree with other commenters that it would be cool if the plant was linked more with your power, like if it gave you boosts/abilities as it grows.)
A minor art/gameplay point: the bacteria (is that what they are?) moving through the walls feels a little mismatched. I know pathfinding can be out of scope for a jam, so that's also understandable. But if you were to polish the game, I think it would be good to either give those enemies pathfinding, or change them so that it "makes sense" that they can move the way they do. For example, the bugs ignore the level geometry, and it's easier for me as the player to rationalize and understand that, by thinking that they're flying above everything.
Overall, nice work!
You might want to tune a couple of things about the gameplay though:
* The collision detection is a bit strange. It seems that the insects can shoot at me from walls or through walls, but I was not able to shoot at them back, the water drops stopped at any wall boundary.
* The difficulty is raising very quickly, you might want to give some time to the player to warm up, and possibly also a way to heal.
