Floriculture by Brickington

[raw]
made by Brickington for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Sit down and relax to the view with your own personal virtual windowsill. Ideal for a second screen while you test out other games or work on projects. Floriculture is a slow paced home gardening sim that is something akin to old school virtual pets mixed with modern casual games, only with 100% less poop and micro-transactions. May this windowsim bring you occasional bliss.

(first ever finished game. be gentle )

Update0.001 The panic update -fixed a bug where the sun would forget to rise

-fixed a bug causing the flowers to forget it was daytime

-fixed a bug where the soil wetness would go out of sync with its actual value

-adjusted times for plant growth and soil drying cycles to be more friendly to the jam. (Accidental zeroes).

Nicely executed genre of these virtual pets. I briefly thought of doing something similar. And I have to admit I'm a monster (I used the cheat key)...

Thank you for the game. I really love the vibe of relaxation games, especially about growing something. In real life we doing the same with our home plants haha :) I don't know why but Animal Crossing vibes are very similar at some level, no violence, no stressful decision making - just growing. Good luck and please stay safe!

Why is the game so big? :D

Sorry for the size of the game. its solely for the audio files which are stuipdly the same length as the day/night cycles as i didn't have time to make a convincing loop

A very relaxing game for leaving in the back, while the graphics are super appealing they don't have to be for a game with this vibe, very good game indeed.

I love the idea for this, albeit it's not really something you sit down and play. I still have it running in the background though, and I like the ambience.
I find the idea unique, and back in the 90's I loved the whole Tamagotchi thing. I would love to be able to save my progress though, because then I could see myself starting this up once in a while, and get that safe sense oaf achievement, especially in these strange times :-)
I liked the artstyle as well, it fit well together with the ambience.

Also congratulations on finishing your first game, well done, and thanks for sharing it with the rest of us :-)

This is the first casual / relaxing game I've played this jam and I love it. Thank you for making this!

High marks for audio, theme and mood.

You did very well at making something I enjoy, though not necessarily something I "play".

The ambience alone is enough to keep it open on my computer throughout today:)

Thank you!

I planted, I think I will leave the game running in the background until the next jam begins. Good green vibes!

I am a monster, I cheated at the start because my windowsill looked sad when it was empty :(

I left this running on a second screen and kept forgetting about it, it is somehow satisfying when you glance over and the day night cycle has changed slightly, or your plants have grown, just a little.

I think I will leave this running :)

I love these idle gardening games, and the cheat made me LOL. Perfect for mitigating the grow time though, otherwise it would have taken forever to get money.

The daytime audio was really nice and relaxing. The night time audio wasn't as relaxing. I think a mute button would be nice too since it's meant to be an idle game running in the background.

The whole day/night cycle was really pretty too. Nice job! Excited to update a picture when my plants are grown.

EDIT- OH! I see the mute option in the intro now! Sorry, my bad!

I've had it running for 10 hours now, watering it periodically. Am I doing something wrong?

Edit2 - Awesome, it works now :) The plants look great and I'm glad I get the satisfaction of seeing them fully bloom!

Edit, Glad you have found the mute button.

I am looking into why your plants arent growing. They grow only if the soil is damp (dark or wet). but seeing as the sky seems to have glitched out i worried it might be something else. so looking in to it.

Edit, found the source of the issue. a rogue zero causing the plants to forget it was daytime. thank you for the feedback and your time. if i could heart you twice i would. <3

I like the idea, something different from most pretty action packed games I played in this jam so far. Relaxing atmosphere and the day cycle is a great touch . Keep up good work!
