You're on duty to keep the ancient magical fire alive.

It shall feast on the sacrifices you offer to him.

Though to be honest the fire is more of a food addict than a picky eater.

In return the fire grants you his magical ash so you can create buildings that produce fuels to further feed his undying hunger.

Whatever you do, don't let the fire go out!

The itch link doesn't work, did you perhaps set it to private?

Great game and the audio turned out to be good . Loved the theory but already seen around 7 games related to fire.

@maqo12 @aryanjumani thank you guys for your ratings! Sadly we couldn't forsee the other games before starting on this one (Though I gotta admit it's not the most innovative idea :D This time we tried to focus on fun gameplay instead of innovation! :) )

Our games are actually quite similar, except my fire is more picky :)

Nicely done! The game was fun and I was gonna hit 700 objects burned until I met my demise! Keeping up can be tough. The progression was nice, being able to unlock the ability to place down objects that create better fuel, and the entire experience was intense! The graphics were also nice, and overall the game had a decent amount of polish. Great job!

Solid game! I've seen a few similar games but this one was executed really well :)

I love the art style of the game - the animation on the character and the fire was really nice. I also really liked the animation of the buildings spitting out resources, it felt very smooth.

I think the balance could be tuned a little bit, it gets almost impossible to collect then feed the fire at the end because the fire pretty much goes out instantly for me. Perhaps the difficulty curve can be flattened a bit more as the game progresses.

The pitch and tempo of the music scaling with the health of the fire was a genius idea, and it really added to the hectic feel of the game.

One small thing I would perhaps change is the UI - the game is all done in pixel art so adjusting the UI to reflect that would make for a much more cohesive experience. Things like a custom pixel art background for the UI or a more pixel-y font would help tremendously.

Overall, I had a lot of fun playing, I only got to 166 fire score though xD Nice work!

Cool game. First time I played I didn't realize you had to get close to the fire to throw the wood. It gets pretty difficult pretty fast, but the building mechanic is pretty cool and well done.

It's feels addictive as an idle game, and the fire is really cute. I feel like a bigger game could be made out of this in the future...

@chiyeon nice I gotta try your game as well then!

@quichi Damn, thanks for the indepth review :D Yeah the UI was kinda rushed and should be made to pixelart as well and the difficulty-curve was made like this so you won't get much further then the last building. We aimed for 5-10 mins gameplay max for a gamejam-game :)

@fedora thank you :)

@xpost2000 I also think it gets addictive really fast. Probably could have gotten more done if I didn't play it as much during developement :D

A fun core mechanic and I like that it gets more tense over time with the music matching that feeling, the building progression was a nice touch and the graphics worked well for this kind of game. The difficulty ramps up a bit too quickly I think and the mouse controls don't feel really precise enough, it feels kind of like you're skating around on ice.

Holly shit, finally a beautiful game, The polishing(not talking about menu), and animation and sound effects come along. Great job.

Loved the game, it's the first one to try out this LD and it was a nice start. Movement seems hard at moments but other than that I had fun and played a few times even, got to a HS of 4326 :) Spoiler alert: It really pays of to go to the edges of the map...
Good luck!

Like others, I've seen multiple games with this take as well. That said, this one is well presented and polished. I thought it was easy but boy was I proven wrong! Nice work.

I love these kind of incremental games! Good work, I love how you don't just sit there and click buttons as most incremental games do, collecting items makes the game really engaging.

This is awesome! Instantly reminded me of the fire spirit from the moving castle, cute and always hungry  Well done on helping the player get a feel how the fire is doing by pitching the music. Though I would like to be able to remove "building" once their output becomes obsolete

I liked that! I had some real fun playing it. The sound effects were bombastic! The pixel art quite nice as well. And everything worked very well. Really a nice jam job!

However, I have one thing to say: burning books!!!?? How dare you

Really nice game! I like how music goes faster as fire go out. I wish I understand where can I built something because now it seems unclear. Nevertheless, good entry!

Nice game ! I liked the concept of creating things that are more and more exotic to burn ^^

The pixel art is really good (even if the menu would have loved to also get it :p ), and the music accelerating is a nice touch

My only problem is that at the end the fires dies too quickly, so the wood is being thrown but the fire is still dying, and you have to move to send wood, you cannot just stay still to send all your stock, which was a bit counter-intuitive. Also if you map q and z to left and right, people with azerty keyboard won't have to change layout ;)

A very polished entry, with a fun mechanic, well played !

This is one of the most polished games for this Ludum Dare! I really liked the cute fire and did whatever I could to keep it alive! Well done and you have definitely more room for further development! Keep up the good work!

very fun~ but the intuitive nature of when to build, or what it would do did not really kick in. I think the game could have done with some added effects that draw the eye to specific sections. I'd also recommend increasing the pickup radius, because often I had a ton of stuff everywhere but couldn't pick even half of it up. Even so, I did really love the frantic pace and how the music adjusted. great job :D

Nice art and the dynamic music is a really nice touch. I found the camera a bit jarring,a bit of camera easing would have been nice.

Challenging to balance collecting enough material to keep the fire alive and building buildings to ensure having enough material to collect in the first place, great idea! Speeding up the music increases the tension, but a bit to nervewracking to me xD Sometimes i had problems placing buildings, a kind of indication how much space a building needs would have been great.

Fun little game. Love the change of tune as the fire burns lower. Also I love the fact that I cant't just leave the game before discovering all the buildings. Only minor complaint I have is that I didn't know how and when to build and I thought that as you hold the button the character would go where he can build automatically and I ended up building IKEA on the border of the map and I was stuck between IKEA and map border. I think that collision between such small buildings is unnecessary as you need to move fast and juggling between bushes and buildings might become hard in late game. Also I think that you should ignore button presses as actual movement. But even with all this minor complaints the game is still really polished and really fun.

Wow! It is intesne! Cool music speed effect. Making it reflect the game state is a relly nice idea. You don't have to spend time looking at HUD indicators.

This game is deceptively simple at the beginning! I wish the beginning wasn’t so fast ha-ha. It was very difficult for me to play for a long time, everything happens so fast. And that's good, the game is challenging. Cute simple pixel graphics, funny music and sounds. Nice music acceleration effect. And only one question - why is the guy naked? :)
🎤 Finnhax
27. Apr 2020 · 15:44 UTC
@daria-toni Well he's obviously naked because the fire is so hot! (And totally not because we didn't have enough time at the end to give him clothes :D )
