Fell Out Survival by talslain

[raw]
made by talslain for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

After a large broke out between three nations. Many people died, but not you! You were one of the unlucky ones.

Now you are stuck in an underground bunker with only one source of sunlight. Someone decided that it'd be a good idea to power the bunker with solar energy. You have to redirect the sunlight between the crops or the solar panels. Without electricity we will have no way of keeping the crops watered.

The battery in the solar room will show you how much energy you have. The water meter in the pump room shows you the water pressure. The terminal will keep track of the crops, make sure to check that.

Your crops should grow in about 5 days.

Good Luck!

How the game is played: map.png The map above shows the different rooms. - Water Meter shows water pressure - Battery shows energy levels - Mirror can be dragged by interacting with it - Terminal will show stats about the crops by interacting

I felt like I wasn't really doing anything, just watching the screen. Hitting the red button in the hopes it did something, and watching the gauges. I guess that's a pretty accurate depiction of living in a fallout shelter lol

A more kind of chilled vibe than I was expecting given the theme - but in a good way. Combination of sound and graphics was surprisingly evocative! Struggled a bit with the collision detection - at one point got stuck on a solar panel :)
The main thing I would say is that it's quite hard to see exactly what you're meant to be doing - perhaps more in-game signposting would be good.

This is a very well thought out game. The lighting is great and I love how you use the mirroring to reflect the light.

My first impression was nice graphics. Except inconsistent. The walls and floor look good, but not the player and the solar panels. It's an ambitious game idea. Maybe too ambitious for a game jam. It took a while for me to figure out that I could move the mirror, but even after that I didn't quite understand what I was supposed to do. My guess would be that I'd have to alternate between giving light to the crops and to the solar cells. But I didn't understand what I was supposed to do with the water pump.

I took me a while to notice that I could move faster by holding shift. That was a godsend, because the game is about moving around to manage resources.

FYI the button to start a new game when your crops die doesn't work

I liked the idea of managing the solar resources in a bunker. The mirror and shadow were my favorite visuals. I wish I could run without having to keep holding down shift, and your return-to-menu button doesn't seem to work. The hand cursor is a nice touch! Overall, thumbs up!

I couldn't quite figure out what the point of keeping the light on the solar panels was for. I had the light on the crops for at least a day while the water pump was running the entire time, and it felt like nothing in particular happened.

Everything seems to be ok. Controls are ok, graphics are great. Sound effects and music are fine. But I don't get it. Crops should grow in 5 days, but I didn't really know what to do. I checked the meters and pressed some buttons for a couple of days but I still didn't feel like I was doing anything. The pacing should be a lot faster probably, I don't know. I guess it's more realistic this way :D
Good job anyway. The lighting was awesome!

Nice map drawing! Could have a mini map in the game. I'm still not sure what to do but the design is cool!
