Train Rush by Panagiotis Iatrou

[raw]
made by Panagiotis Iatrou for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

The theme for this year's Game Jam was "Stuck in a loop". Train Rush is a game where the player has to deliver supplies to different locations, running around loops and getting through obstacles. Be careful, as your train's wagons number increases as you score higher! The more deliveries completed the faster the train becomes. The goal is for the player to deliver as many supplies as possible and overcome their personal high score.

NOTE: There is a bug with fullscreen so keep the game in windowed mode. train_rush.gif

I was playing the web version and I like the music and the graphics, but whenever I tried to play the inventory blocked the bottom half of the screen so I couldn’t see anything down there. Let me know if you fix this but I liked the music and pixel art!

Really nice idea, felt like I was playing snake and a farming sim at the same time ♥

managed to get to a score of 50 before I crashed into my self :joy:

This was a cool genre combo that matched the theme well. I felt the mechanic where the centre part caught fire was a little bit confusing and was the main thing that killed me. If i understood correctly when there's an ! over the middle you had to rush back to put it out while for other ! you had to avoid them. Perhaps a different symbol for the centre area would have been good since i found myself avoiding it and dying :D

Enjoyable game, the music is what really sells it for me. I didn't quite understand when my train would break, i.e if I got a warning with just carts I seemed fine but then I suddenly lost for some not discernable reason, might have something to do with the break in the middle? Either way, really nice game!

Cool game. The graphics are ok and the music is nice. It was very fun (like the snake). But it didn't work very well in fullscreen(the web version). overall it was a nice game

Score 61! :moneybag: Nice game, I really love the graphics! I could imagine an improved version with a widder map to make things harder for the player  Anyway, nice little game, congrats!

Nicely executed. Art and Sounds fit game atmosphere. Overall really amazing game.
Personally for me Game might feel better if you would only use A, D ("turn left" and "turn right") buttons (to rotate train 90 degrees left or right). Having Up and Down keys adds more complexity which isn't needed in this game. Or maybe make speed increase or decrease with those keys... Either way its just a thought

@bentebent Thanks for the feedback! You are right, we should have made it more clear. The factory in the middle has a max inventory of 4 Items. If you leave it produce the fifth item it will overheat as it does not have any other space left.

Wow, I really enjoyed playing this game, I believe you could expand the idea and make a great game! congratulations

Really fun game. I liked it a lot. Maybe some more reason to not go in a constant 8 would be great, although the breaking tracks do help to mix it up. well done.

I liked that the train kept getting longer and faster. The Music was a touch distracting, but really cool entry, I like it!

Intersting game with simple mechanic. I enjoyed playing it. It would be very cool to have some animation when you deliver the goods - I really missed that. There is a sound effect, but visual effect would also be nice to have. Great job!

Hey amazing job, I think this might be my favourite yet, straight forward, concise concept, very good idea for a jam and fits the theme well, so congrats! Reminded me of snake, I think I would've been playing a lot of something like this on my nokia lol ![Screenshot 2020-10-08 233634.jpg](///raw/6a5/91/z/39be2.jpg)

Saw this game in a Twitch stream and tried to play it. But the UI is convering the game. Was this the full screen bug mentioned in the Twitch chat? I did try full screen on purpose to see what the bug was.

But the second time I'm not in full screen mode but the UI is still covering the game:

Super cute game! The audio was BOPPIN! Haha. Fun mechanic and well executed. My only criticism is I wish there were a way to see what goods the train cars are carrying after you've gathered them from the central hub; or if there is I totally missed it as it wasn't obvious. I liked this though!

@charlotte-raymond Thanks for playing! The bar on the bottom shows what Items the train is currently holding.

Trains are fun! More levels variety (more factories, different products) could add more engagement.

It's a very simple mechanic but perfectly executed. I could see this game getting bigger, with more depots and resources.

The music is really nice and perfectly fits the game, creating a nice mood!

Had fun, thanks!

It is fun , makes you stressed while avoiding from fires. Couldn't go forward more but I will try to do soon.

I enjoyed the idea of this and execution was good. I liked the mechanic of the train being too long getting slowly introduced (and its what killed me more often than not!).I agree it would of been nice to have more but given the time restrictions I'm glad you stuck to getting a core set of mechanics working really nicely! great job!

Nice little game, animation for drop off would be nice, and you could try to preserve pixel size. Anyway, had fun playing it

Very good concept well polished for a jam. I like this simple and clean esthetic. Interface, art and music are fitting well. easy to take in hand, not too difficult, the progression difficulty come with the length of the train. (Nice idea the fact that you take as many ressources as you have wagons). The tempo of the traps on the ways is well managed. Kind of small simple addictive games. Congratulation guys!
