The Urban Legend of Nightmare Forest by wheelsx

In Hawaii in the late 1940's there was a rash of unexplained deaths among Filipino men that left experts bewildered. Although seemingly healthy, 81 people died… mysteriously… seemingly without any cause… in their sleep.

These occurrences increased over the next several decades among various minority ethnic groups residing in the United States, finally gaining the attention of the CDC in 1980.

Legend has it that there was a group of researchers doing experiments to understand these phenomena. Ninety three subjects were chosen based on their family history and ethnic origins. They were subjected to vigorous physical testing to insure they were of perfect health. Then, as soon as night fell, the real research began. Each subject was hooked up to a host of monitoring equipment and given a mild sedative. Soon they had all drifted off to sleep, and the researchers retired to their beds for the night.

But when the alarm clock rang out in the early morning light, the researchers were bewildered to find patient after patient dead in their beds. No wounds. No explanation… All but one. A single terrified subject survived. When asked what happened, he could only repeat two words… nightmare… forest…

Can you survive until morning?

I like that your weapon was both your life and light, I did feel like it needed some recoil or pause between shots because you can pretty easily kill the beasts

Creepy survival game ! The dogs are very realistic ! Good job. Maybe you can just improve the performance, it a bit laggy after a minute under my laptop.

I think I would've enjoyed it a lot more if it were normal vertical controls as opposed to inverted, and the only option I saw said "invert controls", but I don't believe it actually did anything. I really liked the vibe though!

Really nice game concept. I also like, that the weapon is also your Life. But I dont see a reason fight actually. If you just run away the enemies will not catch you and you dont need to waste your energie. I would like to know if you can actually win the game or is it just a endless highscore?

@modalmodule it starts of inverted mouse on default, you have to check the box, click accept. Then uncheck it (and accept) in order to set it to normal.

Nice little game for the time frame, the dogs function well. everything being on one meter is interesting, dogs are a bit easy to kill but as you need to get em to fill the meter i figure that's for balance reasons. good work!

@kevin-meissner There is an end. It is time based, you just have to survive for a certain amount of time. I don't remember how long off the top of my head though.

Nice one, with a good creepy vibe. Some beasts got stuck between tree, but had a great time playing !

Great creepy atmosphere! The dogs really give you a scare the first time you see them.

At first I didn't get that the dogs drop energy, so I just ran away from them. But after I figured that out, it was pretty fun blasting through them. I would say that they are a bit too easy, but they did get the better of me.

I liked the game - cool graphics, original combination of horror elements and themes.
Comments: 1) Things are not well chosen
2) it is Strange that for health and energy, one strip
3) Bad game design: there is no point in going anywhere other than the center, because if you distance yourself from your opponents, you will lose

I found that the RNG seemed to have a lot of effect on how far I'd get, as sometimes I'd have a lot of dogs spawn at the start, and sometimes they'd come at me pretty slow. Some specifically chose times + spawn zones could make it more balanced that way. Overall, creepy atmosphere + nice dog models.
