Another One Loops the Dust

After an exhausting day at work you just want to relax and listen to some music. You set up your record player and let it do its work. Sadly, your home is a mess and full of dust so that the song starts to slow down and ruin the mood. But there's hope: Hansel the Hamster! Can he save the day or will the song stuck in an endless loop of disappointment?!

How to play

  • You should play with sound
  • Use Windows version for best perfomance
  • Move with left mouse button
  • Switch tool with right mouse button

Clean up dust with the broom and scratches with the hammer. Try cleaning up the record, before dust or scratches hit the needle. Dust will slow it down and scratches will make the needle jump.

@6smith Thanks for reporting, we are trying to fix it. It works in Chrome or Edge. Well, or the Windows build.

Pretty fun game, a "how to play" section would have gone a long way I think. I am pretty sure you do not have the rights to the songs you are using though?

@dps2004 The song, that sounds similar to "Take on Me" was created by us (Stefan). The end song is just a loop of a part of the original song. So i think we are save here ;)

We added a how to play.

@limered it is not "similar" to take on me, its the exact same song with different instruments. And the end song is not from take on me, its "Shooting Stars" by bag raiders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feA64wXhbjo I don't think you are safe at all, especially considering the end song is a straight rip.

@justswn nevermind it was just loading and i was impatient lol

@dps2004 using the song is definitely fair use

06. Oct 2020 · 00:21 UTC
@6smith yeah, upon looking back, the take on me reinstrumentation is technically fair use I guess, but I'm not so sure about the shooting stars one. It's not even edited. Also, it really really rubs me the wrong way that none of these songs are even credited! All I can find in terms of credits is "Stefan - Cool music" which is not correct, unless Stefan happens to be a member of Bag Raiders

@dps2004 I don't want to argue with you here. Sure, we used the structure and melody from "Take on Me" and a 20 second loop from "Shooting Stars" where i added some wah wah effect, but we do not make money with this game and i think fair use should apply here.

We also added a music section to the description, so nobody gets fooled into thinking we wrote these songs in 72 hours.

What a unique game, I would have expected 'another one bites the dust' as the song though

Great job and thank you for the game!

A little bit confusing at the beginning, but it got me when "Take on me" started playing in the background. Funny one. :D

This idea is damn good, but on top of that you managed to execute it perfectly. I had such a great time with it, the game is so well balanced and the experience is superb. I like the little touch that hitting the needle resets the track and the way dust and cracks affect the music. Sound design is damn on point. Congratulations and good luck!

Oh, the image of a scratched, dusty record had me cringing. :D So far, one of the best take on the theme! Loved nearly everything about it, only if the controls were more, well, under control. :D

OMG, why is there so much dust? I was sneezing at the screen while playing. You need a dust cover for your record player! Also, I kept bumping into the needle and making the song start over... But that jam at the end made it all worth it.

Goddamn hilarious, like the idea, execution, art and the off music got me cracking up all the time. Was the art done with a board or vector?
Anyways great game!

First of all: thanks for all the positive feedback! :)

@walkingtall85 I've drawn everything with a pencil on paper. Then I scanned it and did some adjustments like changing the color.

This is definitely not "fair use" under German copyright law, as German copyright law pretty much doesn't _have_ fair use. You people just have never been sued by GEMA for performing a Beatles song in your local school's auditorium.

The game is awesome though!

@tom-kun when you see the record Player you've got to click on the play button on the right. Now the record starts and a hamster appears. You are the hamster who wants to keep the record clean while playing. Dust and scratches will appears. To clean/repair them you've got two tools (broom for dust and hammer for scratches). You van switch between Tools on right mouse click and move your hamster on left mouse click :)

This was a really fun game but you should've opted out of Audio, per the rules. Either way good job.
🎤 limered
07. Oct 2020 · 09:31 UTC
@jake-white We left audio in, because we remade the game song and made all the sounds. Also we modify the song on the fly during gameplay. That were the reasons behind opting in.
We can't opt out anymore so: If you are not ok with the sound, just do not vote in that category.

I enjoy the music and art style. Run-time audio manipulation is a great idea and is implemented very well. I wasn't able to figure out what I was supposed to do for a while, but eventually I realized that I should let the record play to the end. Perhaps a lose condition would have made that clearer. Nice game!

Really fun game! The art is great and everything fits together very nicely. I also thought the ending with the hamster flying about was really funny :)

This game is designed to torture people - the game tricks you into thinking that you are doing well by letting you hear a few seconds of the song at normal speed, you relax and the game immediately hits you with more dust. You get mad, you start working extra hard and end up hitting the needle resetting the track. Took me over 6 minutes to beat the game

Excellent execution though - the art and the sound design are top-notch. Would get tortured again

Cute game! I love the creative theme and gameplay, and the hand-drawn graphics were a lot of fun. I have just a couple pointers of feedback that are hopefully informative:
- A progress bar paired with the "Time Stuck in a loop" song timer would have been helpful. For a while I thought that timer was just saying how long I had survived and not the song time. It's also hard to see while playing.
- Some sound/music when the game starts would have been nice, especially when it says "Play with sound on!". I thought I accidentally had sound muted because I heard nothing, and the first sound isn't until you start playing.

All of that said, it was an excellent game and a great entry! Well done!

This was a hilarious take on the theme, well done! Quite limited in terms of gameplay, would have liked to see more events happening as the player progresses. Art style is really cute though!
