Hermann the German Dough by conrad

[raw]
made by conrad for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

This little game is about Hermann, a lovely piece of dough. Treat him well and he will grow bigger, do him harm and he will shrink. If you've completed this tricky job, you can bake a cake or share the dough with others. Yay!

BTW: Passing on this kind of dough is actually a real German tradition :)

Fun little game! I played for like 20 minutes and sadly couldn't get Herman to grow consistently. I really loved the art and the mood of the game, I thought it fit the theme very well! The audio could definitely use some work though.

Really nice and orginal concept amongst all the plant and fire games! Very cute graphics and I really loved Hermann! The visual feedback from him was nice but could maybe be enhance with some audio too.

cool and cute idea, i liked the concept that you have to find out yourself how to treat hermann right. one thing tho, as he was getting heavier, he kinda looked like he got smaller?? anyway, schön gemacht!

great concept. it was kind of like a puzzle game. I would really like to see this fleshed out more. As a suggestion, I would have liked more feedback on whether or not what I was doing was right. As soon as I tried something he would end up with a sad face (except for one time, but when I tried it again it made him sad :( ). Also, there seems to be a bug where if I start a new game after dying, the new game retains my previous game's weight.

Harmonious design and good choice of colours. I laughed several times because of the dough face. My dough has died an overweight death. Well done, keep it up!![Hermann.png](///raw/264/z/33ae9.png)

Nice concept, and the graphics are very good. I also like that you put a little introduction to the game at the beginning, good job!

Hi I just played your game and really enjoyed it.

You did a fantastic job with the art and general vibes of the game. Love the goofy little animations, and all the humour you injected into the details all over the place.

Grabbing the ingredients felt really nice, and I love how they wobble back and forth.

I definitely struggled to keep Hermann alive (even being a sourdough baker myself lol!) but I really enjoyed the experience. Congrats on the submission!

This was an adorable game! This is why I love playing and giving feedback after game jams it's to discover unique games like this that you'd otherwise *never* get to play! Sure, it's a little rough around the edges, (the weight doesn't seem to reset between restarts) but I feel like this game taught me about culture (German culture *and* yeast culture!) and did so in an adorable way.

This is an incredibly sweet little game! I wish I was better at taking care of my Hermanns, though... I do not know much about taking care of dough, so I was at a loss as to what needed to be done.

This is super cute! I treated Herman pretty bad though and he never lived long - I'm always a bit too inpatient in these sorts of games and mainly threw everything at him.

Nice game, I like the cute dough animations and the theme, also you taught me something about German culture I never knew about. I wish I could tell if I was doing things right. I couldn't figure out to make the poor guy happy ! I saw you were just under 20 votes so hopefully this helps you out! good work.

Thank you all so much for your support! This was our first game in general and your feedback made us very happy and confident to make another one for the next Ludum Dare.
Like @flyingbear said, it's so nice to play games you never get to play! So we're looking forward to the next Jam and again: thanks :).
