Chipperton by PopDaddyGames

LD Jam 47 Submission | Theme: Stuck in a Loop
Welcome to Chipperton!
Chipperton thrives as and is one of the longest, most enduring communities in the midwest- being directly intertwined into our region's history! The original Chippertonian families that founded this little haven were settlers with a penchant for exploration, a thirst for excitement, and a drive to solidarity.
FUN FACTS
Chipperton has the longest continuous vertical rise of any ski area in the country- rising over 4,139 feet from the valley floor to the peak of Chipper Mountain! Chipperton was original named after Mr Davey Chipper, a mountain man who trapped in the area during the late 1800's. We are home to the best sharpshooters in the world! Have you heard of Chili Cook-Offs? Well as it turns out- we started them! More than 70 species of mammals, 120 species of birds, and two-dozen game fish live in the Chipperton area! Some say, if you keep a keen eye- you could spot a Bald Eagle!
We have the best home-made sodas in the entire region. Check out Gordon's Burger Shop to get a treat- Chipperton is a great place to satisfy your thirst.
In our quaint little town, you will have a wonderful opportunity to simply live, enjoy life, and get to know your new neighbors. Maybe you can help out around town?

GAME DESIGN
Developed as a collaborative effort. PopDaddyGames + atmctype did everything but the 3d modeling- which was provided with love by Synty Studios.
GOAL
Try to leave a lasting impression!
Enjoy your time in this peaceful town. Have fun- listen to the music- and get to know everyone! Thanks for playing our game, and seriously; let us know what YOU think- we're DYING to hear what you loved.

NOTES
There have been reports of various bugs and we pored over them thoroughly. As of 06 October 2020- the only known bug is the interaction with the Gas Canister/Pump in the mechanic mission. As for the rest of the reports, no further bugs have been identified and all actions appear to be working as intended. We will investigate further.
We fixed the bug with the Gas Canister mission. Extraneous bug squashing. Etc.
*Please let us know if there are any other outstanding bugs. *

At first it reminded me of life is strange, so I thought it would be like a small story based game, which is good, nice mood. But I have to say I failed to understand the idea behind the gameplay. Is it just to showcase a quest system ?
Edit: Just replayed the game and discovered the underbelly of this game. Let's just say now I know why so many car models were used in this game.
Maybe make the distances for the first quests a bit shorter? Maybe even make the first questgiver be in the very first frame of the game so the player gets introdueced to the principles as quickly as possible? I get the idea of exploration, it just doesn't work that well when all you can find is people who want you to do things for them, I think.
All in all - great potential for a great RPG! Will definitely revisit the game later on.
Thank you for spending some time in Chipperton, and we certainly look forward to the next time you drive in.
I kind of wish the game has a more guided map, I got lost very quickly(it is a personal trait too, so it might not be your fault). If the game can lead you from point A objective to point B objective and slowly opens the map, that would be great.
Side note, the 3d modeling was on point.
Glad you liked the "underbelly" too! I won't say much more on that for the sake of new players ;)
Thanks for your comments about the music and intro- those were certainly some of our favorite parts.
The atmosphere was intended to bring you a feeling of peace and serenity, so I hope the particle design supported that goal!
I would like to ask you- did you use the tools in all there various configurations? I assure you- the loop is present, though there's a good chance that maybe you didn't discover it. ;)
I'd like to ask if you'd be willing to give it another play through. I reckon you didn't get to explore the entire loop... and may have missed some of the most fun mechanics! :)
Did you get a chance to explore a bit? I reckon you missed some things! ;)
Were you able to find some particularly fun elements? ;)
But... Why can't I shoot the guitar played with the tranquilizer gun? The scene seems to be set up that way...
Oh and I didn't really find a loop... Lots of 'interesting' interactions though. Nudge me in the right direction?
Most prompts in the game give you an [e] to [use] prompt. The guitar player specifically hides the [use] text for a bit of discovery.
There are many ways to complete the loop (with different endings)! Hope you enjoyed your stay in Chipperton and hope you come back to see more! :)
Thanks for submitting your game!

Well... no matter how you broke our little world, we're glad you played our game! Thanks so much- as always- for supporting LDJam! :)
(I still blame @elysiagriffin for igniting my bloodlust...)
It's super bold of you to put so much hidden content in this game that many people might not even realize is there. If I could offer one piece of advice, maybe preventing the player from sheathing their tool when they run might result in more people discovering the hidden depths of this game. Although, if you want to keep that stuff "hidden," then you probably already made the right call.
Good luck on the Switch port!!
