On the other hand, the box displaying the story covered the part of the screen I needed to get to the firewood ever so often, so that was a bit annoying. More so, however, I felt hte story had a strong set-up but it didn't really go anywhere. The pay-off was a little drab. Plus, me putting logs into the fire had no real impact on the story. Lily killed me while I was walking around the forest, I'd have hoped she would show me the courtesy of waiting till I came back.
That said, ending on a positive note, the art style and visual direction were amazing. I've never seen this type of art done this well to so much effect. The art style is what brought me here, and it did not disappoint. Even with minimal animation, I was absolutely absorbed.
I just died because I would like to take my time to read and answer a dialog T^T
Maybe it could "pause" the game the time the player answer !

But the graphics were neat, and from what I could tell reading through some of the other comments the story ended up making a pretty neat turn. Definitely makes me want to keep trying to get to it.
The music kind of gives me Hello Neighbor vibes. Which is a good thing - I personally liked that game.
EDIT:
I played it again to the end. Really neat! I think the issue I had with the wood previously had something to do with trying to pick up wood while I was already holding wood. But when I wasn't having that issue, it was neat wandering around. I might have liked to get a chance to walk around sooner, but it was neat when I got to it. Did anyone else notice the car?
The graphics are good, I love the "hand paint" style, the parallax forest, the details in the woods (that I will not spoil here). With the musics and audio mix, you made an incredible game.
But it's really hard to follow the story and collect wood at the same time. I tried to follow the story but died because the fire stopped. Maybe the solution was to collect wood between dialogues?
Nevermind, really nice work with Godot, I really like the game.
Pro:
+ Music (great guitar stuff!)
+ Atmosphere (lighting effects, great use of ambient sound, good job)
Things that bugged me a little:
- The text crawls were too slow. I'm a fast reader and had to wait for each sentence to switch to the next. A button to manually progress the dialoge would've been nice.
- The characters had names, but it wasn't clear who was who. For immersions sake, it would've been cool to have speech bubbles at the characters or something :)
All in all a cool little text adventure
