Leaning plates by thewrath

[raw]
made by thewrath for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Hey, guys,

For my first LD I am happy to present my arcade game: "Leaning plates". The principle of the game is simple, you must follow the three following rules: * Prevent the plates from breaking * Put them in the dishwasher, you'll be well rewarded if you economize water! * Be careful you can't carry more than 10 plates...

I made the game in Lua with the help of the Amulet framework.

My total working time is 16 hours.

Have a good game!

i love the pixel art graphics in this and the tiny detail like the working clock behind, i also like the tight controls very responsive and smooth. shouldn’t be the indicator show up before the plates come in ? other than that love the game :)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not very good at graphics and since the goal of the compo is to do everything on its own, I forced myself to do something correct. In order not to have too much freedom I tried not to exceed 16x16 sprites that I resized in the game.Yes indeed I put some details like the clock or the bubbles in the basin! Glad you noticed them :) Now I'm going to try your game !

This is a really nice looking game that's fun to kill time with! Very impressive for a compo entry, well done!

Nice little game, it's clean and well polished for 16 hours of work, and gameplay loop is fun and well balanced. The choice of blocky pixel art was the right one

I liked the cute artstyle :) My only problem was with the controls as the character kept sliding for far too long after I release the button. I think in this kind of game it would feel better to have tighter control. But it may be a personal preference. A well done game!

What I like:
- Gameplay is simple and easy to get started
- Graphics is good given the time limit
- Sound effect is a nice plus
What can be further worked on:
- The collision seems too "forgiving": there are several time I thought I missed it and that resulted in weird graphics
- Add more content/mechanism to enrich the gameplay

Pretty cool! I played it several times. It's helpful to see where the next plate will appear.

I liked the simplicity of this game but I would of preferred a steeper difficulty curve. I managed to get a high score of 590.

This is a simple arcade game, but well executed. I like the retro style.
Great job for your first LD entry !

Despite being really simple, the look, feel and sound effects of the game go really well together. I would have preferred a bit more challenge though, like if plates gradually fell faster as time went on. It also wasn't apparent to me the fist few times that stacking plates got me more points since it only does so at the 9th plate. Maybe have a small bonus by the 2nd or 3rd plate so its clearer that we have to stack the plates. Other than that great game :)

This is a super simple and fun little game. I like games visual style, but it could need some music. The gameplay idea is fun, but it would have been fun if you also had to balance the plats. Overall is this a good combo game. Well done.

A super simple but well executed game. It worked really well and i enjoyed playing it. My only gripe was that the controls took a litlte to get used to as i didn't expect the guy to feel like he was on ice but otherwise good work!
