About the game, post mortem

Every level (I managed to make 5 levels) is warped. The plan was to make a group/flocking AI that takes this into account (that you are closer the other way around) This proved to be much more difficult than I thought. But I learnt a lot about game AI! Making this game was really fun btw, because with the character/ASCII art graphics, I did not spend time (at all) with lamenting about how bad my pixel art skill is...

Over all, this was much less frustrating experience than most jams are, and I did finish a playable game in time!

  • I used javascript and WebGL, Howler.js as a sound library. No other libraries. Every other thing is from scratch, I used some of my earlier library code, like vectors and some WebGL functions.
  • The only "graphics" is an original IBM VGA (code page 437) font.
  • Music is made with SoundBox.
  • sfx is just my gf swinging a towel, slowed down. Next time I will make all sfx like this
  • code compressed with terser

Cool idea, having the player be able to wrap around the map edges but not the opponents!

Nice, I love the oldschool ascii look, and the CRT shader a lot! It was satisfying blowing enemies away and grabbing the loot.

I did run into some interesting issues where I was running into invisible walls, and the characters seems to jerk around a bit if shooting while moving, but nothing game-breaking.

Overall good job!

I really like the graphics on this one, really interesting lo-fi look, sound fx were also sort of retro, only thing is I am not exactly sure how it fits the theme of stuck in a loop but I didn't play it till the end so maybe it becomes more apparent as you play - a pretty original entry though for the graphics style especially

I was all the long in the mood! I liked the look old school, and it was really fun to play - but I didn't have the will to play enough to get the higher stuff
Anyway, good job!

I really enjoyed this one! The aesthetic is so cool, I would want to play a more expansive game with visuals and a mood like this :)

I really liked the graphics for the game! It was very satisfying to collect money and kill enemies with the powerful upgrades. There seemed to be missing collision in a couple of places, but it didn't really detract from the experience for me.

Really liked the aesthetic and gameplay in this. I would have loved a ramping difficulty, as once you get a few upgrades the game becomes quite trivial. Got to the blue fireball staff and had a blast. One thing that did frustrate me is that you can't collect the loot from the last mob you kill, but maybe that was to force me to kill Trolls first? I dunno, pretty minor all things considered lol. Great job!

I like the CRT look. My goal was the 1800 gold staff, but even before then I was destroying everything with ease. I'm no stranger to grind, but it was a little too much for the really expensive upgrade. I think an upgrade that doubles or even triples the spawn rate so you can earn more money and really make use of your upgrades would make the grind more appealing.

The enemies get stuck a lot, but other than that the game seems pretty well polished. Great job, I enjoyed it!

I REALLY Like the aesthetics!! The updgrades and progression are nice and gameplay is ok. There is some bugs with some enemies on walls and also if you do a diagonal movement close to a wall. Overall great game!!
