I am so Bored! by WhenYouCantFindAFriend
Hi Everyone! I created this game for Ludem Dare 46 which was from 9pm on April 17,2020 to 9pm April 20. The theme was "Keep it alive". I took the approach of "Keep your spirit alive". In the game, an internal monologue about boredom is played while a monster jumps over pits and destroys objects of tedium. Press the SPACEBAR to shoot and the UP ARROW key to jump!
During this crisis of the Covid-19 Pandemic, a lot of people experience restlessness and boredom because they are stuck inside. I wanted to make a game that explored the meaning of boredom. Sometimes the words "I'm bored" mean "I'm scared", "I'm Lonely", or "I'm angry". I realize my writing could use some improvement and I'm not sure if I really got my idea across in the game. I hope to practice writing more in my game making process! I also feel lucky to be bored in such a turbulent time. Please stay home and stay safe!
I created the art from fabric scraps and auto desk sketchbook. For the 8bit music I used Beep-box(composed within the last 20 mins of the game jam!). The sound effects are from the YouTube music library and I used Logic Pro to put everything together. Construct 3 is the game engine
Thanks for Playing!

Thoughts: gameplay is fairly easy to grasp, and seems to sync up with the audio fine most of the time. The simplicity and lack of challenge in the game actually served to help me focus more on the auditory narration. I *did* think the writing made me go, "who thinks like that? Using 'bored' in place of, 'unmotivated,' 'fatigued,' depressed?'" but I guess that means I'm not the one the message of the game is targeting. I do, however, strongly relate to the conundrum the monster is facing.
Other notes: I can't figure out a way to escape the Credits screen.
