I'm in!
Liked the game!
Feedback:
There is some problem with controls, when you try to sacrifice someone. It requires you to put him from the correct place.
It seems I can be blocked out in money / notoriety zone.
It's reaaaly hard to balance money. At some point I just got tooo many cultists doing nothing, imo they and spawning a tad too fast.
I won the survival mode on my first playthrough: I quickly hit a good balance of money and notoriety, then after T:450 got greedy for more cultists to feed the god faster and lost... I suggest making the game a bit more zoomed in, to better see the god's appearance. Also too little time is given to its evolutive phases, I burned through them so fast and only got the final form, where the only change was an increasingly white noise effect in the eldritch room.
The game over screen is also a nice touch, I managed to read it :alien:
A few things took me a while to understand. Notably:
- There is another screen that I should get the cultist too. Initially I thought the two trees were two "zones" mentioned.
- The "quests" are the actual goal (?) of the game? Maybe they could've been on permanent display instead of always being hidden until I press a key?
- Feeding the god is just a means of survival, and I should delay it as long as possible, lest it grows. There is nothing to be gained by having it grow.
What I still don't know is whether the game winnable by fulfilling all of the quests. I think there is a bug in the quest system. In all of my playthroughs, one quest didn't get marked as done, despite me clearly having fulfilled the conditions. (E.g. I got the 28 and the 13 notoriety, but somehow never got the 18 notoriety quest? Yeah, I got three notoriety quests there.)
Anyway, I enjoyed the dynamics in the game! Especially interesting was that once the cult got bigger, it got harder mainly because the damn cultists kept doing their own thing and getting in my way, haha. The 1bit graphics and the sound design also works well. Great job!
On the simulation side of things, I like the concept but the mechanics might need a little fine-tuning. One of my quests was to gain 24 notoriety, and just having like 8 or 9 notoriety made my cult explode with cultists and chew through all my money faster than I could move them around. The time survival quests seem really tough as well, as well before 400 seconds in the eldritch power bar lowers too quickly for you to survive even while constantly feeding cultists. Who knows, maybe it's meant as a moral-of-the-story, you can't win by worshiping an eldritch god :p
Really enjoy it overall though, it's hard to get system mechanics tweaked and working perfectly during a game jam. Cool idea, good execution, awesome style, played it for a while!
Please try to achieve proper pixel mapping next time so your graphics aren't weirdly aliased and blurry!
