@majadroid yep, I hate this theme as it's dull and completely generic for me. I expected more fascinating theme.

Technically you start with no points and work your way up the score board and it reminds me a bit of BroForce! Great shooter!

Nothing wrong with ignoring the theme !

Anyway I thought the game was fun! Well juiced & action packed. Played two rounds and got a high score of 4000.

I would have liked to see my high score after dying. The explosion radius of the barrels and fast tiny guys was very unclear. I also would have liked to have some sort of move obvious indicator for when my guy took damage.

But overall, pretty great!

@ssstormy I thought about statistics after death, but I'm so tired, as I rebuild a game idea on Sunday and Today. That's why there are so much problems with UX.

Really nice game! Love how the particles flood the scene, and the camera effect while shooting, it makes it really powerful.

So this is the top down arena Doom? Everything in this game is super polished. I liked its professional look with installer and all. Is this something provided by Game Maker itself? I really enjoyed the game, I would love to play a version with levels and an ending, rather than just an infinite arena. Congratulations on the excellent game!
🎤 Artyom Volkov
07. Oct 2019 · 22:52 UTC
@gabrielgamedev yes, you can make an installer in GameMaker with ease. Speaking about levels, it was an initial idea, I had even made doors and special spawns, but eventually I realized that I couldn't manage to make it as I want.

Game was pretty deam fun to play so thats really nice! The game could be improved on by having easier to see bullets and more responsive movement from the main character. And it didnt have much to do with the theme (but the theme is dull anyway so thats completely understandable haha)

Nice game! But biggest problem is ammo. After 5 minutes and 10k scores, it's still not a problem to run away, but finding ammo makes trouble sometimes. Melee would be great :3

Game is to easy and needs increased difficulty, at least progressing difficulty scaling as time pass by. If there is one I haven't noticed. I played till I died on purpose to see what happens if I eat one rocket to the face. But... we were both waiting to play your game since we saw firsts posts during the jam with the screenshots and the name of the game. And we were correct, game is super fun and solid, though quickly get's repetitive due to the reason I mentioned above.

This was a really well made game. The mechanical feel and sense of feedback were really tight. Commendable quality for a game jam game. I'd love to see a bit more breakup with buying new weapons over multiple sessions / waves and bosses, but you could probably save that for the "full version" this game deserves. Thanks for the game!

@asue @david-klemencz @daniiln @aj-jones @diptoman @aj-jones @diptoman Thank you for playing.

@wolf4d I changed the core idea of the game on Sunday, as a result, I remade most of the game in 2 days. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to balance. Also, I wrote a very simple drop system. Speaking about the right button, it's just a debug thing which I forgot to disable.

@bigwhiteshogun at the start of a jam I thought about the pure single-player experience, but on Sunday I changed my mind, as I understood that I couldn't manage to deliver interesting gameplay in such a tight time. What about difficulty, there is some kind of dynamic difficulty, but because of rebuilding game in 2 days, I didn't have time to balance it better.

@adamcyounis if I hadn't made a mistake with the estimation of game mechanics development, I would have made better AI and weapon system.

**I AM THE ONE WHO HONKS**

I really loved just everything about this game, the idea is so stupidly great! I really REALLY liked the visuals, specially all of the permanence. The room starts out clean and then I HONK some MOTHERDUCKERS and the room just evolves into a gory mess. There is a lot of attention to details, I specially loved the Goose head that gets progressively more beat up as you take damage.

The juice, is... sooooo juicy.

Yes it doesn't follow the theme 100%, but it kind of still does. Apart from that my only wish is that you would show my score when I die, because I lasted for quite a while and wanted to show you my score . Maybe you could do a post jam version that does this, if you do that please @me!

Great job, seriously fantastic entry!

Really solid game in terms of gameplay and overall design. It reminds me of Nuclear Throne, especially with the way the particles of the shotgun works. The only minor nitpick I have is the lack of a long-ranged weapon - it's inconvenient to aim at the enemies in the distance with a shotgun.

Loving the Doom vibes here, fun game even though it has nothing to do with the theme. It's pretty easy to die unexpectedly so it'd probably be helpful to have some kind of noise play when the player gets hurt(I focus on where I'm shooting so the player flashing red isn't something I see a lot). Having another weapon or 2 for variety would also be a good addition!

@jam373 have you had some technical problems with the game?

10. Oct 2019 · 00:02 UTC
Fun game that reminded me of enter the gungeon. Solid mechanics in the game and it felt really nice to run around and dodge everything. A highscore mechanic would have been nice to add.
Jam373
10. Oct 2019 · 00:32 UTC
@artyom-volkov not really any technical problems, I just played for a long time and all the blood on screen slowed the game a bit. Just proves how much I liked the game that I played for that long.
jusw85
10. Oct 2019 · 04:45 UTC
Great fun! I managed to get to 25k points before deciding to end my run. There was some slowdown when there were too many bullets on screen, and I would also have liked if I could hold left click to keep shooting. Otherwise, great mechanics, the movement and shooting feels very fluid.

This is a super fun game! I kept playing it for 20+ minutes until I finally lose. The game feel is the real deal here! It reminded me of Enter The Gungeon. But there gets a lot of clutter. And I couldn't see my score in the end because it flashes back to the menu screen so fast.

Well, i can say the theme isn't really there (but i assume the theme wasn't that great and, seriously, who voted +1 for this theme?), but for the rest it's a really polished arcade style game. Just wished for some more itens or weapons, but the game is really fun to play and the art here is really good! Great job!!
BrokenMirrorMedia
10. Oct 2019 · 18:54 UTC
Pretty fun game! Everything felt really smooth, but I ended up losing some of the visuals in the blood particles and such, which I guess is part of the style, but it meant I mostly had to run around and shoot wildly at a certain point because it was hard to discern the smaller enemies. I only wish there was a little more dynamism to the gameplay, since it felt a little too simple at points, but I know how it is with game jams. All things considered, a really solid, well polished entry!

I immediately liked it because of the art and the gameplay. But despite looking great, the game felt bland and boring.

10. Oct 2019 · 19:02 UTC
Might not have been part of the theme, but it was a very polished little shooter. I would have liked to see more Goose to make it suit the name more ;)

My one criticism was that after playing for a few minutes it was very difficult to see anything over all the blood effects, which then didn't restart after you died.

@matharoo the initial idea was to build several Doom style levels, but on Sunday I realized that I can't manage to do it in such short period of time. Eventually I started working on arenashooter, bacause of this I couldn't implement some additional mechanics, such as weapon drop/progression.

Wow, this is one of the most polished games I've seen in LD45 so far. I'm super impressed. It felt really good to play - you got the mechanics down really well, and the animations and feeling of moving were so good. I love the whole idea haha. The graphics are also A+. Definitely impressed that you were able to get all this done over the weekend. The only thing that kept me from playing it longer was that, even though the gameplay itself felt really good, there wasn't much incentive to keep going. The pace of the game was mostly the same, and it got a bit hard to see with all the effects going on. Still though, wow - this is sweet. Really well done!

Awesome game, needs more gore ;)

Feedback stuff:
- Did you not use 'delta' for rendering and game logic? It was slow at 60fps, but then I went fullscreen to 144fps and the game was suuuuuper fast. It seems that you calculate things every frame without regard of how much time elapsed between now and the last frame.
- I'd enjoy movement abilities, like a dash and sprint on cooldown or with stamina mechanic
- More feedback when player gets hit. Screen flash, shaking quick red tint? Idk

Like others have said, this feels fantastic. Just moving and shooting feel so satisfying.

I think you made a really smart decision to use existing sprites and focus on crafting something that feels great to play.

Others have already made great suggestions, so I'd add that as a player I found myself wanting:
- ability to see a bit further out than the fixed perspective (perhaps mouse moves the view a bit).
- more ways to use the environment to my advantage (farming explosive barrels?)
- an overall goal to work towards (even something intrinsic like exploring new areas).

Wicked jam game!

you made a Mac version (which is good!) but you made it with the PostJam :/ As a fellow Unity builder, next time you can just export as HTML5. You may need to download a Unity plugin though. Unity creates everything for you, a complete Website etc which you only have to upload somewhere. I would think, itch.io supports those builds as well

@pythong it's Game Maker 2, not Unity.

There's a lot going on - quite crazy! - but it was still fun. The graphics are nice and the mechanics work well. Thanks for sharing it with us on stream!

Got some strong Nuclear Throne vibes mixed in with doom/quake. I enjoyed it.

Controls are great!
As is sound/music choices. Graphics and visual feedback are good. I prefer cleaner environments in fast paced shooters, to faster visually distinguish what's going on on-screen. So I find there's too much leftover blood/body parts/debris everywhere.
Still, this didn't take away from the game much. All the projectiles are well contrasted with the background, even if an enemy gets slightly lost in the chaos.

Nice game, graphics, controls and gameplay are great! This can be an example of 'juice it or loose it'. Great job!

Feels good to play, and I like it how the arena gets dirty over time!

Nicely done for a weekends work. The controls are solid, and while one could ask for more features (levels, weapons, feedback such as an angry honk when you get hit), all the core mechanics are there and rock solid. Well done.

Good arena with fascinating shooting mechanics. Funny introduction of game's cultural references. I like the style and gameplay. Great job!

"Oh dear, this is not my type of game", I thought, and I was very proud of surviving 120 seconds after a few tries! Then I started to enjoy it more and more, and it's quite addictive! Would indeed be fun as a multiplayer game. The game runs really smooth with a controller, and the graphics, animations, splatters and screen shakes are very nice! I would love to see my score/time after game over, but I guess that's already implemented in the postJam version. It's a pity you see a lot of black outside the playing field, would be nice if the camera would stay inside the field. In the end I survived almost 3 minutes. I would have liked to hear the background music a bit more over the sound effects.

Great entry, well done!

Gameplay was fun an the graphics were nice. The audio fit it well and of course the idea was humourous. I do wish the theme was present (even if shoe-horned in) but overall a good entry, well done. :)

Gameplay was very solid, shooting was fun, and the music was perfect. Wished there was a bit more feedback when the player gets hit.

Whether intentional or not I do some time want to ignore the theme and just make a game I find to be fun rather than trying to shoehorn the theme into the game. :) and this you have a solid game

Nice game. The art can be confusing with to many dead on the ground. It is really fun. A few different levels and maybe a final boss and you would have a full game. :)
edit: and a highscore would be cool

Man I only survived a few minutes each time. Very fun and well polished game. I had a similar idea but, tried to do it as a solo dev in 48 hours. So I really enjoyed seeing all of the care take to make everything so polished.

Oh man, didnt expect anything like this, the normal LD version was so polished that I decided to play postLD and its way harder + has the things I wanted to tell you that LD version lacked. Overall I really enjoyed it my max score was only 1000, little bit of more ammo would be appreciated
