Feed the Tree by

[raw]
made by for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Once upon a time there was a strong Tree, in the middle of this barren land, which gave life to everything near and around it. The oasis flourished, animals were strong and healthy, and humans observed unusual healing. Many set up farms around the area to take advantage of the exceptionally fertile land. However, decades of exploitation and some mysterious happening have caused the Tree to deteriorate, losing its once unimaginable strength, and turning the place to waste. Now the Tree desperately needs your help to survive. How long can you keep it alive?

Scavenge the place for fertilizer and potions - they will glow from afar. Bring them to the Tree to keep its life force from depleting.

Warning

Situation is somewhat unstable. Mysterious phenomena have begun disrupting access to the Tree. Before you venture into the Web version of the game, a D20 will be rolled, determining what obstacles lie ahead:

  • rolled 18 or higher - the game will run normally
  • rolled 17 - loading will take quite a while, but it will get there eventually
  • rolled 7-16 - you will experience broken graphics; you can enter the oasis, but you cannot see very well
  • rolled 6 or lower - loading will take forever, and performance will likely not exceed half a frame per century, rendering your mission attempts futile

Once determined, the obstacles will not change. If you find yourself unable to play, please try one of the downloadable builds.

The Game looks really nice and the animations of the player are really cute. But i think it would be even better with sound ;)

Good audio is one of the single greatest things you can do to set yourself apart from other submissions.

Yeah. Unfortunately I mismanaged my time on this one, and left myself with no time for audio, and 666Savior had less time to begin with. I decided not to opt out of the category though, so you can rate this on the complete lack of sound ;)

I'm going to try the downloadable but you should know that the web build hangs in Firefox and shows this error in Edge (Chromium) on Windows 10: ![nullref.png](///raw/4ae/22/z/32a52.png)

I absolutely adore deoderant-guy's naruto run! The map is big and if you mash spacebar you can fly above it and see it all, which is neat. There is a lot to explore. Also I like the mood.

very pretty game! I couldn't find what the axe was for.

@cheesepencil Thank you for describing that bug as a feature haha :D And yeah, the Web build seems just broken af. Might take it down 'cause it seems like a deeper issue with Godot's HTML export at the moment.

@kevin-prehn Thank you! The axe was supposed to be a weapon against enemies, but the enemies were late to the party, so it's mostly useless. You can practice some very awkward axe throwing though ;)

Good work outfrost. A lot went into the game, if only there was a bit more of a rewarding game loop / fun mechanics, it would have given me more reason to explore the lovely world you created!

Hey! Saw your game was a few votes short, so I played it on Twitch and gave some live feedback! VOD is up on Youtube, if you'd like to see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi6oja9yekY

This was a really pretty collector game! I couldn't find out if the Axe had a use (the tree didn't seem to care for it, understandably), or if there was a difference between Potions and Fertilizer for the tree. The low-poly terrain looked nice, and was fun to explore (I liked some of the little areas farther from the tree). The way the camera oriented to face the tree always was a nice way to know how to find your way back was nice, but there were moments when I wished the camera looked where I was trying to move. I also noticed the tree's glow changed based on how well it was fed, but a little more feedback on it's wellness (maybe some indication of maximum health versus current) might've been nice, and helped create a sense of urgency.

Thanks for putting this together! I enjoyed playing it.
