The idea of a boat race in a watery loop like that is pretty good. I hated the controls though. They might be realistic in the water, but it didn't feel right, I would have wanted to go faster in the loop, but the controls made it impossible.

I've always wondered what a racing game would be like if it had the cinematic camera from GTA as its main focus. This game answered that question. Its hard. Love the comedic use of theme and also asking for the users (redneck) name. Boat turns a little to fast for my personal liking but it does allow for some pretty nice sudo-drifts around the corners.

Great work on the scenery, and it looks pretty sweet with that boat fan movement. I have a similar gripe with the controls, wish they were tighter to control the steering more, but that could be easily tweak-able and fixed. I also think it makes it more interesting and more of a challenge having the camera stay where it is, makes it more unique.

the unique carmera helps to match the theme, but i agree with others that you should have committed even more to this idea and kept it in one place (or do cut scenes maybe?). nice that you added highscores in that short time, well done.

Is this inspired by Country Justice: Revenge of the Rednecks?

Yaay, I'm on the toplist. I don't know a lot about hovercrafts, but this seemed a bit hard to steer :\ And the camera sometimes was a bit hard to see with. Maybe a simple "behind camera" would have been better.

Anyway, I had fun beating my record to get higher on the list

By the way, how did you implement the toplist? I always wanted to try something similar, but didn't really know what's the quick way of doing it, so it's could be done during a jam. Thanks!

I think this camera mode is fun to watch or replay, but it's a little uncomfortable to play in person.
The boat's turning around faster than I expected.
The game was fun!

The highscore is a really simple PHP-script that put´s the times into a MySQL-database. If there is data incoming, with POST, the time get´s stored, otherwise it just writes out the best 10 times, and that get´s placed on a UI-text in unity. I have not playes Country Justice but have to check it out. This game started as a space-craft race-typ of game but all my betatesters said that the CAR was a bit slippery, so I changed it into a swampboat, then the idea landed better.

I had an early versin with a follow-camera script but I could not get that to run smooth in the Web-GL version. Another tip I got just now was to make two modes, one noob and one pro, where the noob controller did not apply forces to the craft but instead rotaded it slower and consistent. Well, I have learned somthing from all of your feedback and that is the important thing, I have played this over and over during the last days, you are just testing it out, so I need to make it even more easy next time.

I am so glad for everyone playing and feedbacking my game. Thanks alot.

Very cool! I loved the camera. I was a little bit hard to grasp at first, but it really gave the game a unique identity. Congrats :D

The camera controling is very cool and made it like a live F1 racing match. I love the solid sound effect which is one of the soul of racing game LOL. Good job.

I really dig the online Leaderboard system. It drives you to always get a better time. Definitely super fun! I just wish the camera was third/first person instead of eagle perspective.

Simple racing game, nice. The controls is really hard to control, especially turning. The dialogue at the start is pretty funny though, nice voice acting XD.

those controls are really really hard to handle.. was that on purpose? overall great game, nice simplistic graphics, had fun.. and also was frustrated :)

This is like high-octane slot cars and I love it!!

The camera was really well done, and I actually had a fun time getting to grips with the controls. The super floaty boat handling added a lot to the comedic value.

Wish there was another goal other than getting the best loop time (at least I didn't notice one after 3 laps), but I had a lot of fun, and I think that would've been the case without a goal at all anyway, so it's not that big a deal. Nice job!

I like what @theseusinabottle said about Rockstar's cinematic mode, but it still needs the constant exposition while you drive. Reminded me a lot of a Mario Party 3 mini-game, controls and all: https://www.mariowiki.com/Dizzy_Dinghies

@tudvari Regarding how to send and manage a highscore list, I have briefly awnsered you above, without taging you. Sorry for that. The big thing there is the php-page that takes POST-statment and saves the data in a MySQL and if there is no POST-data, prints the highscore list. If you want, send me a message and I will gladly share my PHP-code.

Cool idea with global online highscore table! Liked the graphics. Simple and nice. Camera seems to be OK, I had more struggles with VERY sharp turns. Well, I suppose real air boat handles the same

Hahaha, very funny but fun game.
It took me a few laps to get use to the control but managed at the end.
Best score for me was 37.
With a small amount of improvements on the art style this game could be a mobile it.
The gameplay is perfect.

high scores were such a good idea! The game is fun, fits the theme and is a nice challenge... but adding the highscores definitely kept me playing longer.... though i think the top score might be a bit suspect! Best i did was 28....highest score was <1s :joy: but i am tempted to try and beat Dalon and 23!

Not too bad! The graphics are nice enough but the environment could use some ambient lighting. Also, the controls work, but the turning was very sensitive in relation the the throttling, which made it very hard to adjust to it. The stationary camera with it's low angle didn't help to make controlling the boat any easier. It was still fun sseing to boat ram int the shoreline all the time :) The voice acting in the beginning was a nice change of pace! Good addition.

Had fun playing your boat racing game.
I like the camera work - it gives an impression of a tv broadcast.
I agree with @duke about the sensitivity of turning. It felt too sensitive.

All in all good fun, even though I suck at it. Can't beat 35 seconds :)

10. Oct 2020 · 12:07 UTC
The camera and the controls make it quite difficult, but in principle it is pretty fun. With the controls I mainly felt that a short tap would barely even turn the boat, while a longer press would put me into a wild spin, so it was quite hard to make the kinds of turns I wanted.

12. Oct 2020 · 11:28 UTC
Oh boy, I've done so many donuts! Yet, unlike other commenters, I found the controls to be not too bad, you could do very satisfying turns once you got used to them - I never managed to go below 35s though.
The simple fact that the lap time is recorded gave the game a lot of replayability, a good game design lesson I guess! An other very impressive compo submission, congrats!

I managed to do a couple of laps. Although I didn't like the controls, it wasn't that bad either. I would suggest to add simple ramps and obstacles, that would add some variety. That being said, this is my 1st LD, also my 1st time making a game, so I totally get all the work that goes into something like this. Respect

I liked the graphics of the game. The 3D models were colorful and the camera displayed the scenery beautifully. I also liked the audio of the game. The sound effects were realistic and the voice acting was pretty decent. Unfortunately, I found the gameplay to be quite boring because I usually do not like games with no end goals. Due to the lack of end goals in this game, there really is not any sense of achievement or gratification I feel when I play the game.
