Keep your plant alive.

Too little or too much water will kill it. Fertilizer can help it grow faster.

Tip : it takes several minutes for the flower to grow, so feel free to put the game on a corner of your screen while you do something else, but keep an eye on it if you don't want to watch it die too soon!
(But it looks like the game is paused if it stays in a tab in the background, so you'll have to open it in a new window)

Very long, was a little confusing at first, I killed my plant by over-watering. Took awhile to grow it into a flower but it has a nice realistic feel to it and is almost meditative. I like the message at the end as well. Well done!

Thanks for your comment @lonewookie, you're right it can take a long time for the flower to grow, so I added something about it in the description, because the game is not intended to require your full attention all the time, like for real plants :)

My plant dying was funny and surprising, but I was a little bored playing before that.

Cellular automatons are fun to write in Pico-8. I followed your new description and I left the window running for a bit in the corner. Very nice little game/experience.

Very meditative, I found it frustrating that I couldn't see any feedback to how much or little water the plant had. Very good implementation of the theme

Killed my first plant it by over watering...
I'll play another game while the new seed sprout
I'll rate it then.
Is there an indicator in the soil texture of how much watered it is ?
thank you for this slow game it is refreshing

I love the pacing of it. Watching the flower grow is so satisfying. The roots are a neat touch too.

Very relaxing. Having some clouds or more ambience in a background might help as well as some sounds like some wind blowing from time to time or rain. Good alternative to the omnipresent action oriented games :D. Well done.

Took me quite awhile to grasp how the game worked. Overall nice visuals and slow paced but interesting gameplay.

It was just a little too slow for me, I think a speed-up button would have helped me. I think this really could benefit from soothing music, that would keep me playing longer. I also agree with others that an indication of how much water or fertilizer the plant needs would make the game more playable. I'll try putting it in the corner of my screen though; I think the concept and graphics are a real draw -- it is nice to look at and use. Good job!

First time my plant died immediately. Really fun little game, takes a totally different approach then most games I've played. Not sure if the plant always dies, I got a pretty big flower and it still died haha.

@gallahron & @dhim : yes, the soil become yellower if it is too dry, and darker if the plant is overwatered. The stem also take a different color when the plant is about to die soon.

Pretty good but not much intuitive to learn.

I must say, I love this. Watching the little guy growing. I wish it lasted longer! Only downside would be that I didn't understand what those buttons to click was at first, so I was afraid I would be stuck on the first screen forever.

Really great job! I haven't seen many Pico-8 games before, and this one is so unlike the other ones I have seen. The way the plant seems to grow is so interesting, I've got no idea how you did it! I'm not sure if there is an end state. I got a flower bloomed on the stem, but then it seemed to wilt and die despite me doing nothing differently. Overall, I'd say that I missed having some ambient bird chirping or wind blowing in the background, but I can see why you wouldn't want to implement that. Great job!

Very peaceful game. I liked the subtle indicators of too much/little water you used. I really liked the pixel art and animation of the flower growing. One thing I will say though is that it took me a little to realize that I was killing the plant with too much water (also the useful tip you included is not on the itch page).

Overall it was a nice game. I feel like you could continue with this mechanic if you added more types of plants where the player is surprised by how it turns out, and it also might be cool if you could grow multiple plants at once. Like you said this was fun to keep on the side while I watched a video.

Super chill and interesting simulation. Not a lot of gameplay, but I enjoyed it. I kinda messed with it while working, so that was nice. One tiny gripe was that the in-game key for watering looked like an 'o', and I was too dense to look at the instructions, so that had me scratching my head for a bit. Nice project though!

Edit: I also just wanted to say, whatever method you used for stem and root growth was impressive.

Ok I see it now, the game was not moving in another tab, but work in the background if I put it in another window. Something about itch.io maybe,
Can we get different flower plant or is it always the same ?
Very peaceful entry anyway ! Good job.

I do not fully understand why you need something other than watering, but it is very relaxing and meditative.

Nice idea. A bit too long winded to bother when speeding through games to rate though. Sure I'm missing out. Impressive procedural gen.

@connor0wolf : there's no end state, whatever you do you can't keep things alive forever...

@dhim : there's only this flower

I agree with banzi, some kind of ambient relaxing music would fit here perfectly. I enjoyed watching my plant grow. I kept it alive for about 20 minutes waiting for something to happen, hope that I haven't missed anything ;) Very nice graphic

@moomka : I don't know too, maybe I wanted to use the two buttons available with Pico-8, or I anticipated people would like to speedrun it XD

This was so cool to play. I wanted to keep the flower alive even after it was fully grown because I was so fascinated by its growth and movement.
