The neighbors say all the isolation didn't make you crazy. They say you were already crazy. But you're not crazy! Your plant told you so. In fact, Planty says he's hungry. Planty says lots of things, actually. Did you know penguins are the tumbleweeds of the animal kingdom? It's true! Just ask Planty!

At any rate, Planty says you need to take him outside for some sun and... other things. Do you best to find Planty the things he needs as you become best friends forever and after forever!

Best played with a ficus friendly controller but can be played arrow-key/wasd style with the spacebar and ctrl keys.

I love that you're plant has the same name as my game!

In all seriousness, this looks super cute.

Great artwork.

The intro text is well done. The graphics look amazing and the sound world was great.

I dunno how you managed to make moving up and down buggy, but I couldn't move after a while with neither keyboard nor controller. Besides that seemed like an intriguing game. :)

Omg, this is such a cute game! The art and music are so pleasant. And I loved how the character talks to her plant)) Absolute cuteness)) Great job!

What a fun game! Reminds me of Little Shop of Horrors. I'm a sucker for quality pixel art, and you've delivered! I also love the change in the audio towards the end of the game!

If I would complain about anything it would be little nitpicky things.
Entering/Leaving the house always makes the character say something about Planty.
If the character says "Any bones" I wanted to feed Planty the bone weapon.
Why have a dialogue system with the old man if we're not really going to use it.
I don't think I ever really got hit? Why can't Planty help me find his food?

By the way, the little squash and stretch thing you did with the pixel art is so cute! It adds so much to the game for just a little tweak. Overall really great game that I think deserves some recognition!

Amazing game. The tables really turn when you start killing everyone. :)

The artwork is great. I struggled to deal with the enemy attacking me and was unsure what I needed to do apart from take the plant outside?

Wow! Controlled support finally, you are the second person who made this simple, but very useful feature! It's little unusual to use digital stick instead of analog, but after a few minutes I adopted. There are a lot of cool content and the graphics are pretty smooth and cute. I tried to kill everybody in this game (I am sorry), but didn't found anything, it will be cool to add "genocide run" in the actual after ludum game.

I love plants and when I saw them combined with this aesthetics, I couldn't just pass this game by. Graphics are gorgeous, the palette is finely tuned and fits the overall cuteness of this title (no pun intended). The controllers' presentation is so clear and easy to read - I can't thank enough for that. I could say goodbye to the walls of text, finally!

Gameplay is great and entertaining - dialogues are funny and enrich the production. I only had some WSAD weirdness at some point (tried to go north but started going the other way round) but apart from that I had solid fun when playing it (and killing villages just to keep my plantie happy).

The game is complete and fun, I have nothing to complain about!
Wonderful job! :seedling:

Thanks for the comments everyone! Also posted an OSX port a few minutes ago. Fixed a typo the module that reads the arrow keys... may fix some arrow weirdness.

@spacepotato We limited the game to a 16-bit palette for a bit of a challenge. Glad you noticed!

@pixel-error Yeah, supporting game pads make it easier to test as well.

@connor0wolf That's exactly what we we're shooting for!

We ran out of time to implement the dialog system :( This game we were down to the wire to get it submitted, I'm surprised that there's not more that was broken. I'm sure @mutatedsoftware or I will go in and clean up a post jam version.

I thought it was very fun and cute! The graphics are very nice, the sound is good but a little repetitive. One small problem I had is that the main character's dialog box would cover up an NPC's if they were both talking at the same time, so it was a little distracting. But funny and cute, good job

Nice - solid graphics, sound & writing add up to a nice overall mood. I found the gameplay to be a bit frustrating though - the combat is pretty annoying since you can die so quickly and get kicked back to the beginning, plus I got stuck for a while on the egg part thinking you had to get them from the chickens somehow. Didn't really make sense that the eggs would be in some random house. Could use some better ways to lead the player to the next objective - exploring a village is a cool idea but not when there's seemingly a timer ticking down. (though that didn't actually matter in practice, it still felt like time pressure!) Still it was cool to see the progression of the plant. Nice work!

Really adorable graphics and audio. Fantastic atmosphere!

I personally struggled with the controls a bit. It was a bit fiddly with just the two buttons. Could use a little more direction as a player, I accidentally killed the guy near the chickens (due to the controls) and couldn't figure how to get an egg :( But overall I found the sun/water/food mechanics to be a great idea and everything feels and looks really juicy! Good job!

Loved the pixel art style. The audio was nice too. The mechanics for the sunlight required were nice since it forced you to look through houses quickly. And later things do change a lot XD. Good game :)

I loved the moment the music changed. It started out as such a cute thing and then took such a dark turn :O Really good job on the music. The graphics were _just right_! Really good job

Hahaha! I did NOT expect it to go there. That was a really great little game! Great entry! :)

I didn't notice any particular use for the health bar during my play through.
I think the only thing that I wish there would have been more of would have been extra NPC interaction. Or reactions to the plant growing.

Great and cute game, but I got stuck after I got cornered by a few angry villagers resulting in a slow game over... ![Untitled stuck game.png](///raw/e04/d2/z/3300a.png)

Wow, awesome "feed the plant with every piece of organic around" game!

Made it till the end, but was a bit disappointed with the fact that Planty just got big and the game is already over :'(

Great entry!

Some little problems with the level design, I got stuck in some places but except that, it was awesome. I loved seeing the plant grow and eating more and more weird things! The final plant form is terrifying ! Awesome job <3 GG

Man, what an amazing love letter to classic graphics... really nailed the whole vibe. Loved the NPCs dialogue and general silliness!

@jjacobs and @qyouk Yeah, that map was not thought out in the least little bit, so there's definitely some choke points.

@mrleeperry Yeah... I always wanted to tackle a 16 color palette, it worked out pretty well. The palette is called Island Joy...

Thanks everyone else for playing and the great comments!

Wow - have to say this is not my typical genre but couldn't stop playing. I did encounter a bug where it stopped taking input at one point early in the game but of course couldn't reproduce it. Playing the mac build with a keyboard.

Really fun game :) Didn't get to the end because it kinda annoys me to have only one thing in hand.
Otherwise, it was really cute and I loved the murdering mood :D

Awn man! By the time the planty became a human eating monster there were no humans left for me to murder and all the bones were gone from the map, then poor planty starved to death. I love the game, really well polished and well executed. Great job all of you.

I absolutely LOVED this game. The humor is perfect, the art is great, the music is pretty nice as well.

I ended up failing because I couldn't find the eggs and had to watch a playthrough. Carrying things around was a bit annoying sometimes, but it was SO FUN. :D

Cute game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/NFvpzo131Hc
