Amazing game with great graphic (oh I see now the graphic wasn't created during the compo) and a nice little story :) The only thing that I can complain is that it was easy to exit a house by misstake.

The sound was very relaxing.

Every day I would check the feed of posts, seeing the progress of those also participating. I saw your update posts all the time, and I was really excited to see the end result. For a pico8 game made in just a couple of days this was a lovely experience. I have no real criticism to offer other than I thought the audio was pretty loud, and I wish there was a way to control that in game. Otherwise, fantastic existential experience. Thank you

I liked the atmosphere and the story. I know the graphics weren't entirely made during the compo time, but I still liked them.

Only one negative point: please don't make me enter a building from below to find myself at the top once in :sob: Other than that, the story is pretty cool (but, just like the other, I want more of it  ) and I loved the atmosphere

Hey @netmute ,
This is nice. Like, that's the best way to put it. It's nice. Good mood, good atmosphere. Let's go through the more prominent positives:

1) Sound. The lack of a music is really spot on here. I hope it's intentional because it really works in this game. I have seen games that also work well with music during periods of reflection so that isn't to say the lack of music is the absolute best way about it.

Nevertheless, I enjoy it. I only hoped that, during the period where the protagonist sleeps on the beach, the waves would dim to a silent for a moment. That would just add a small bit more polish to the game!

2) And honestly, it's a nice place. Hah.
It's a very short game. But you've decorated the world with small bits that hint at the narrative and as the plot unfolds, so to does the player's understanding of what the game is about.

You've set a good place for the narrative in my opinion. I enjoy it!

If there were any nitpicks I have, it would be:

1) The controls. It feels too clunky to move around having to spam the movement keys, or press too long for the auto-movement to kick it. But it doesn't detract too much from the experience.

Overall, very nice. A hidden gem almost. Really loved this neat thing!

Great, simple, little story game! I love how you adhered to the 8 bit cartridge vibe completely. The short bits of dialogue in everything you examine was a nice touch. Definitely feels very nostalgic to play. The only thing I can say is that I wish it was longer/had more to do, but great work for the time alotted!

Overall a very nice short little game, it was very relaxing and I liked talking to the NPCs and seeing the descriptions for certain objects. I just wish there was a bit more to do, besides that though it was very nice.

There _is_ a Korok somewhere in this, isn't it? =.=

Jokes aside: lovely little game. Gotta look into pico-8 at some point, so far every game ive played made for/in it was ridiculously cute. This one especially really got immersive with the sounds of waves and soft text/typing-effect. A really cozy experience which makes me crave for more. I'll check your other games in a second, hopefully there will be something similar, otherwise i'll just play through "a short hike" again, which to me has a quite similar mood. Love it. Definitely keep going!

Nice, I loved the graphics. And the history was sweet. A wonderful entry.

My only negative remark would be that having the doors to enter and go out of houses both reachable by walking up was not very convenient (many times I entered in a house just to immediately be outside of it).

It is a very moody and touching game.
I like how it uses the theme: it's not about being stuck in the loop, but about freeing yourself from it.

You managed to create a little but living village, and those dialogs felt real.
The waves in the background are the perfect background to complete this, I wonder how you did it, so I'll download the cartridge and take a look at it ahah

It's small, but polished and with a great atmosphere.
I think it wouldn't need anything more based on what you want to say with it =)

Just a question: the 2 dots under the faces are a beard? ahah

Subtle incidental comments when looking at things give a good background to this (linking into the looping theme). Enjoyable, but way too short, would love to see this expanded (I expected to be dumped back on the beach after going through the door).

I LOVE this small pixelated gameboy-type aesthetics!

One thing I found distracting from this overall beautiful game was that the wave sounds are way too loud compared to everything else.

Other than that, well done! Super cosy game :)

It's incredible how you tell us a story with nothing.
There is like 3 characters, 5 screens, and that's it, lol how did you do that.
You used the Theme at 100% and all the things you put in works great together.
Audio goes well with graphics and story.
Maybe a little bit short ?
But any way, that was awesome

Nice little game, great atmosphere :) If I have to be nitpicky I would consider "flipping" the houses so that you dont exit them in the same direction as you enter. I walked in and out a few times before I got used to it.

This was a memorable and smooth experience, thank you. I love the story concept of ending up back at a place over and over again because you're dissatisfied in some way and need to resolve that dissatisfaction. The graphics were very cute and the ocean sounds and dialogue sound effects were quite good. I agree with larsdahl that'd it'd be nice to flip the houses so that I don't have to pause moving every time I enter/exit a house. Other than that, I loved the game, thanks for sharing!

This was a really cute story, and while you didn’t do the graphics category, I do really like the graphics and think it adds to the overall mood. I like the theme of being stuck in like a groundhog situation. For some constructive criticism, I don’t think you should hear the wave sounds inside the cabins and etc. Nice work!

I'm a sucker for both story-based entries and PICO-8 entries, so I absolutely adored this. The graphics and sound effects are very high quality, especially the day/night effects, and I liked both the writing and the overall storyline, with its existential feel. I can't think of much wrong with this; it's honestly one of my favourite entries so far. Very well done!

Really good graphics - like a little lofi Link's Awakening. The different palettes for different times of day were very nice. Cosy wave sounds!

The story and general concept was good. but could perhaps been explored a bit more clearly. The houses being flipped was a bit disorienting and I usually tried to walk up upon entering from muscle memory of other games.

Very interesting work. I really liked the graphics and also the sound. I find the story behind very intriguing, and it motivates you to want to understand more. I like the retro vibe of the game. The controls are very simple and functional, with a few seconds you learn how to play, and that's a good thing. I hope you will consider making a bigger and more complete version of your game, as I believe it is a project with potential. Good job.

I'm always impressed by games that seem to really create a world of their own. Something that feels like it has more life than what you see at face value.

The audio of the crashing waves was simple but really well done. I'm actually especially impressed by the tree sprites as well.

Great job!
