Scythe Streaker by PlagueOfMinds

[raw]
made by PlagueOfMinds for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Scythe Streaker is a platformer made for the Ludum Dare 46 game jam by the Plague of Minds team using Unity. All assets (artwork, code, music and sfx) were created during the jam by the team with the exception of the free to use font called "Toothy" which was borrowed from FMOfficial here on itch.io. (Thanks FMOfficial!).

The Ludum Dare 46 theme of "Keep it Alive" is fulfilled by keeping your "STREAK" alive in the game. A "streak" is slang for keeping a winning activity going repeatedly. In this case, your streak is trying to slay the monsters while never touching the ground. A total of 10 rooms await the intrepid gamer ready to undertake this adventure. Between each room, an opportunity to obtain upgrades to your streak abilities is available. It's time to pick up your scythe and get streaking!Banner3.png

Good game! I liked your take on the theme and how you linked the scythe into the platforming elements. The screen didn't scale properly when I played it so it was too big and made the text and score really difficult to see, but that's a really small fix. Well done!

I am not sure if I am the only one that has this problem, but the text that is supposed to explain me how the game works is too high up and I can't see some of it and it's really annoying to try and guess the words. I used the attack button to fly around without needing to touch the walls to advance, is this a bug or a feature?

Scythe mechanics is nice, but it's hard to aim at anything, resulting in me going anywhere but never on what I targeted. Sometimes, when changing screen, the camera isn't on the character but way on the left.
Text moving and shining this way makes it hard to read. Otherwise thoughtful gameplay.

Nice game, a bit dark sometimes.

The concept is really cool, but you should warn that players have to launche the game fullscreen if they want to be able to rade the text. It's quite hard to understand the game, the upgrades and to learn the controls. I really enjoyed the mechanics. A more polished game like this could really be fun!

Maybe something is wrong with your game, I can't play the game. When I click on "Start Game", the game screen turns black and the game does't start.

It was quite a fun game, great job. The movement needs refining because it seemed a bit random which direction you would go in. The colour scheme is great and again just needs a bit more work. The flashing text and sudden white screen adds to a cool neon concept, but does cause bleeding from the eyes, so maybe that should be toned down. Overall though it is very good, well done.

Thank you for all of the feedback. For anybody who is having trouble playing it, if it goes dark when you click on start, try reloading and then hitting space. This is a separate way to transition to the next screen.

I was not able to jump with keyboard controls :( Other than that probably a pretty good game! The music however is awesome :)

Oh boy. That was tough to play! I felt like a games journalist failing in the tutorial.

When I finally got over it I was extremely confused over what was happening. Lots of furious space mashing and direction hitting later I was done.

I am not sensitive to flashing lights, but diam one hour of this and my stomach will reevaluate dinner.
Artstyle is cool on paper but in game it irritated me.

Could not play very far due to the the vfx issues that other have already pointed out. Really digging the character design tough.
