Why Baby? by Chris Rock
Is your god a T-Rex? Is it hungry? Is it in a vat? Do you have to keep feeding it and refilling its vat before it dies? Then this game is about you! I just have one more question: Why Baby?

This is our second submission to Ludum Dare! Aside from bringing back Rory's AMAZING art, we have Chris and Vinnie back as Devs. This time around we have Erin writing the dialogue and Ashton on music! Enjoy!!!
Controls: WASD or Arrow Keys to move. 'e' or 'space' to interact. Also supports gamepads!!

And the t-rex fuhrer is really cool
Love this game, would probably buy if I saw it on steam
Really fun aesthetic and idea
The gameplay is basic but works. My biggest criticism would be using a red filter for hunger. It took me time at the beginning to understand what it meant and it ruins the beautifull graphics when it gets too red :/
Still, one of the best game I played in this jam. Well done !
Edit : is it actually winnable ? It seems like the water is draining way too fast when the dino gets huge
It took me a bit to understand how to buy and use the upgrade but overall it was really enjoyable.
The graphics are nice and the dialogues too !
Great work
The resources administration was a little hard to keep up, but I have to confess that I am not keen on this type of game.
The red screen when he is dying seemed to be only time related and not according to the life meter, but it is probably my fault... hehe
Maybe a sound feedback once each station is ready for the next interaction it would be helpfull.
Nice arts and sounds, btw. Awesome team work here. Congrats!
Great entry!
@hannahelena @maxathon @billehbawb @karas @connor0wolf @jacobwing @tripl3m @ad0rian @r2isabot We're so happy you enjoyed the game! We put our heart into it and it means the world that people are playing and enjoying it.
@quarter-up-studios @pxgluz @polifev @casual-dutchman Thanks for the feedback about the Fertilizer. The way it's supposed to work is that if you trade 5 Embroja and 5 Nektare to the grinder at the bottom of the screen, you get 1 Fertilizer. If you give a plot Fertilizer while it's growing, it becomes a SUPER plot and will grow much quicker and yield more Embroja! I can see how the explanation is not too clear. This part was a little rushed, since originally we were going to have a whole third resource and a building mechanic. Would have had a lot more instruction as part of the building UI, but had to cut that part for time.
@debuggerpls @deadboygames Ha ha, yeah Serpens is a mean lil' guy. We thought it'd be fun to make you go against your instinct. "Wait... WHY am I helping this jerk?"
@okkolobr @joaquinm @silurus @digitom @majadroid Thank you so much! We're so glad you enjoy the art! Rory's art is the real star of the show in my book!
@abb1x We were actually talking about Mewtwo during the design process!!!
@khud0 @lucisaurus @fabrito @yscik Yeah, I hear you about Serpens can get a bit rough. Even my wife was saying "Wow, he's THAT mean?" I'd like to add a toggle in the future for those that would like to share with younger players or those that would prefer cleaner language
@sadpanda @adinimys Thanks for the feedback about the redscreen, I agree completely! We wanted something to keep things hectic and really make you sweat when Serpens got hungry, and Rory made some really cool Red versions of the pod, but we were running low on time and I had to throw that filter up there. Definitely something we'd adjust with a bit more time!
@adinimys @theqiwiboy Yeah, the difficulty is pretty rough. We wanted it to be tough, but it might have ended up a bit TOO tough. We got to the point on the timeline where we said "Ok, it's winnable, good enough" and moved on from balance. Keep at it and you'll crack it for sure!
@bitdecay Thanks for the feedback about the gameplay, we would've liked there to be a bit more complexity, as well. As we mentioned with the fertilizer, we were hoping to have a third resource that would've have involved an entirely separate building mechanic where you would've had more options for upgrades, but we quickly realized we needed to simplify to make the deadline. We kept the fertilizer in to give some variety, but we would definitely want to add more options in a full game!
Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart! Don't let Serpens know that I'm slacking off to write all this out, he's a bit of a grump! There is just one more thing. There's this nagging question I've been meaning to ask you all, but I just can't remember it.... Hmm, oh well. I'm sure it'll come to me...
Love the art and the story!
