Edge of Victory

The war has been raging for decades. Every time we thought we've found a way to defeat them, they somehow figured out our strategy. Now we now how - they posses the technology to loop time. Whenever we found a new way to fight them, they went back and adapted before we fired the first shot.

But now we've got a chance to end it once and for all. We've located their temporal manipulation devices in a series of bases in this area. If we can destroy them, we'll be able to launch our final offensive.

You've got to be quick, though - they know we're here and they're already preparing to loop us back. Destroy every base before that happens!

Gameplay

You start with a single factory rover. You can deploy the factory by selecting your rover and clicking it again. Once deployed, it will start producing drone units. Be careful, though - once deployed you can't move it until you repack it again.

Use the button in the bottom-right of the screen to change the rally point of spawning drones. Attack enemy units and bases to gain more time to complete the mission. Killing enemies also grants you tech level points, which are required to unlock more advanced drones in your factory.

Recover abandoned rovers to increase your drone production. Defeat enemies to unlock better drones. Destroy enemy bases. Good luck!

Controls

Mouse. Use left-click to select vehicles and buildings, or deselect them by clicking on empty space. Use right-click to move your vehicles. Left-click selected vehicle/building to deploy/repack. Press & drag with middle mouse button to move the camera. Use mouse scroll to zoom in/out.

I like the idea, a simple RTS.
However, it is really hard. perhaps tune down the difficulty a bit.

Looks like my kind of game but I cannot play for lack of a middle mouse button!

The controls/GUI took me a bit to figure out, but it was pretty fun once I knew what I was doing!

@ZwodahS Thanks! In a post-jam update I'm going to add several difficulty levels to choose at the start, that should make it better.

@josh-roby Oh man, I'm sorry for that. I'll add WASD camera movement, but as that would be a new feature and not a bug fix, I feel like it would be against the rules to add now. It will have to wait for a post-jam update.

I love the visuals! The colors go really well together, and it's nice and simple palette. Well done!

The game doesn't really fit the theme but I don't really care, this game kinda has the sauce. having a rts game where the workers are the factory's is sick and I think that idea has a lot of potential, overall the game has some jank like the workers getting stuck on other factory's or only having one rally point limiting the number of strategy's or the camera feel odd to use but I had fun playing it.

Given the production rate of my drones I didn't really feel like I could push much past destroying one other factory. I'd like to know if I'm doing it wrong so I can play a little more, I really like RTSs!

@Dharby Thanks! I had plans to polish the graphics once I was done with the gameplay, but I ran out of time. I'm glad you like it. I guess there is something to be said for simplicity. ;)

@Lees-Pac Thanks! I'm going to be working on this one a bit more, there's a lot of things I had ideas for but didn't manage to implement in time.

At first I wanted to give a separate rally point for every factory, but eventually I've decided against it for the sake of simplicity. I guess I could bring this idea back, once I've improved the controls a bit. The workers are getting stuck because there is no pathfinding at all - I've put it on hold until I'd add some terrain obstacles. Now that I think about it, I think I should probably add some basic collision avoidance before that.

I had the same issue as nardandas. I tried a few strategies but I kept running out of time going for the second factory cluster.

What's there seems pretty solid, and I had fun optimizing my strategy around unit lifespan by repositioning factories, but it's just too tricky for me unfortunately.

@nardandas A single factory can't really do much more that that. You should recover abandoned factory rovers to get more drone-producing factories. The first one is just behind the first enemy base to the east of your starting location. You can recover it by getting your drones or your vehicle close to it.

Also, the drones have limited lifespan, so in order to be able to destroy more enemy bases with your basic drones you will need to move your factories closer.

@FireSlash Thanks for your feedback! I think I'll increase the time bonus for destroying the first base to give the player a bit more time. That should do the trick.

@Eldelhas Thank you! I guess once I've expanded on this idea, I'll have to make a proper tutorial for it. ;)

@leo-red Thanks! You can left-click the vehicle to select it. Once it is selected, you right-click wherever you want to move it to.

Really tough game - I was able to clear out most of the bottom half of the map after a few tries but I came nowhere close to winning.

It kinda felt like it was missing some basic RTS mechanics - only being able to control the drones by setting a single rally point felt a bit primitive and awkward. I really wanted to be able to click and drag a box around them to select them and send them to do specific things.

I think the simple, Asteroids-esque graphics worked well, despite being basic.

I could see this being pretty cool if it got fleshed out.

It is interesting to play. I like the visual, even though it looks simple. Great result for solo development!

@Empty-Set Thank you! It was supposed to be a tug-of-war RTS, so the lack of direct unit control was intended. I guess by having only a single rally point instead of separate rally points for each factory was a mistake that dumbed the game down too much, I'm going to fix that in the post-jam version. I also wanted to have more factory and drone types (as well as bigger enemy variation), but I didn't manage to implement them in the jam time.

Nice rts, with interresting concept. I would prefer to have scrolling at least with arrow-keay or WASD, panning with the mouse is more for realxing strategy games where there is almost no time pressure. It is interresting & fun to figure out the right maneuvers on order to progress between the time loops.

Nice little strategy! I like it, although it might seem hard at first, once you understand what's happening its fairly easy, at that point its more about how fast you execute moving your factories and switching targets enough to cover all the attack vectors. Definitely has some potential for an interesting strategy game if developed a bit more!

Always makes me happy to see another RTS
