Sisyphus Beetle Takes His Daughter to Work by pee-thief

[raw]
made by pee-thief for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Meet Beetle Sisyphus , a nine to fiver at Beetle Corp, Hell Division. But when Take Your Kid to work day comes, He is upset to find his daughter, Sandra Bepis, thinks his job is lame. While he used to take pride in his work (pushing a ball of poop up a hill over and over), Dung Beetle Sisyphus now feels stuck in a rut so there is only one thing to do: Buy a time share so teens will think he is cool!

Funny game! It's impressive the amount of art you made for this in a weekend. I was having a hard time getting the green bar to work on the second part for some reason, but it didn't really detract from the craziness haha

The jokes were bad, and so, so worth it. Super fun game, and really convincing sound effects for the background. I think it's a really effective and hilarious contrast to start in a regular seeming room and slowly see the flames burning in the background, only to skid back with every failure.

I spent far too long trying to haggle down the price.

Definitely a super creative take on the theme, and my excitement to play your game was met!!

Reminds me of the indie games of the experimental gameplay project era. Super relatable game, this game had it all: the plight of the dungbeetle, the screaming sounds of the lost souls, the long road to financial independence. Perfect game in every way.

I actually went and checked if slut indeed means end in Swedish  - and it does! Learning all the time.
The setting is hilarious. And those constant screams of the damned. Brilliant. Gameplay may not be very engaging (as rolling poo up hill should not be very engaging!) but the atmosphere of the game makes it all worth it. Great jam job!

I came into this expecting... not this... I intentionally didn't look at the screenshots before playing it and was surprised and entertained when I first made my way up the hill and saw the great art in the background! Super entertaining, very apt audio (if a bit loud), and a fun concept. I'm not sure if the time share is really an escape from hell but I guess to each their own! Nice work!

Decent submission, a bit too meme-y for my taste. Its lacking an actual gameplay loop. The sounds were too loud and they were all over the place. Camera movement didnt follow the beetle. After the joke the camera reset to bottom but beetle was still at the top

Doesn't feel too much like a game in the traditional sense. The graphics and humor are definitely good, and I like the reference to Sisyphus. Although, I think I managed to break the loop after a while of never missing a push. It was a fun little experience in hell.

This game is super confusing, the art style is really original and the core mechanic of pushing the dung uphill was pretty clever, although I discovered you can jump directly to the ending by retiring early and haggle the price, it would have been nice that the amount of souls grew with every peak reached, also the screams were really confusing until you notice where they come from. An original idea but I think it could be better executed by adding some more gameplay elements.

07. Oct 2020 · 01:39 UTC
For such a simple game, I loved it! The whole concept is so random and unique, there's definitely not ten of these floating round the jam! The style was funky and really fit the vibe. I think it could have been made slightly clearer how you earned the souls to buy the timeshare though and balance the audio a little better. Dad jokes were a great touch and actually made me laugh out loud not just sharply exhale through me nose in mild amusement. Awesome job overall!

I love this game. I like that the character's name is Sisyphus, I like all of the dad jokes, I like the fact it's set in hell, and has a lovely background, and I like the ending, and the fact that you can haggle for the price. Also, the art is cool. I think you could probably do a bit more with gameplay, maybe pushing the dung up the hill could be done through puzzles rather than the bar thing, but I appreciated the humour and art, so good game overall

Excellent job on the presentation and silly humor. The aesthetics were pretty consistent and informative of the environment our beetle works in. I liked the dialogs as well.

One of my bigger gripes was actually the instructions: specifically, letting the player know they can just cash out their time share. I chose to do that first (skipping the timing minigame), then immediately clicked "haggle" and "accept." I guess the intent of that instruction was to let the player know they can escape the situation, but for this player, it lead them directly to the end credits with no context, and left them very confused. I had to play the second time to have a better understanding of the absurd humor.

I liked the graphics and humour, but the constant screeching of tortured souls in the background felt a little unnecessary -- I already hear plenty of voices in my head as it is. The gameplay itself also wasn't very substantial.
Overall, this game's a mess, but a charming one!

This was hilarious! I loved the screeching of tortured souls in the background and the artstyle of the game. I think there might be a bug in it though because I was able to buy a timeshare with only .5 souls and then finish the game ? Anyway, very great submission I loved it!

That was awesome. Different and that's what I think Game Jams are for! I love the story of Sisyphus and him being a dung beetle seems pretty close already! Very clever! I would have loved to play more of it and I did struggle a bit at the start with the green bar (either I am motorically not capable or the hitbox is different then I would expected) But all in all it's a great jam entry! If all games were this lovely and wacky I would probably be playing until the next ludum dare!

That was.. interesting. Really funny and unexpected. I have no idea why you decided to add dad jokes but for some reason it improves the entire experience.
