Meatball VS Gymzilla by davision

made by davision for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Feed your giant meatball, grow mutations, beat gymzilla

Thanks to a breakthrough in applied biological science this meatball can grow 9000 times its average size.

But the scientists did not stop there. With the right ingredients the meatball can rapidly grow various highly useful mutations.

The recent appearance of Gymzilla in City 46 proves to be the perfect testing ground to unleash all the powers of the giant meatball on a worthy foe. (Human lives may be sacrificed in the name of science)

The meaty stucture of this marvelous spherical life form is still fragile and must be kept alive at all cost since it is not only a giant leap for science but also a symbol of hope for the whole of humankind.

Instructions:

Eat various vehicles for mutations, ressources or armor but you can always only grab one. Keep your meatball in good shape and make tactical decisions to bring down the Gymzilla. Click on your grown mutations to activate them, their actions are as follows:

Good point! Something we missed in the hectic end.

Quite a big download, but was totally worth playing. Overall, the game works well, but some bad rng made me lose pretty quick. The idea is super absurd, but it made me laugh. The models for the meatball were really disturbing and at the same time very well made for the theme. Good job!

Looooove this game, possibly one of my favorite game so far. My only complaint is it's not long enough :D

I always respect to unreal engine developers. Very nice game developed in shot time.

This could easily be an amazing base for a longer game. The only thing i would recomend is to not get instant feedback when you attack but rather get it when the action reach the enemy. But nonetheless, i liked it a lot!

DIE GYLLA! HAHA! Took some wrong mutations slots to get it right. Ultra psycho style!
The "one truck for convoy" took me a while also. Excellent monster mutation design.
The abscess made me lol. Good job!

Nice game! I was a bit confused on where to put the mutations and I didn't quite get what all the mutations did. Other than that it was a pretty cool game

Wow those graphics were amazing! The meatball and Gylla looked great. The gameplay seemed like it could be fun, but there's too much RNG. In the beginning of the game, I had an eyeball that shot lasers. Then when that died I wasn't able to find a single attack mutation for the rest of the game. I just kept getting atomic brains and power balls.

Still, this was really well done. Great job!

@ale 100%! We actually talked a lot about a more biased RNG system (something like, every convoy has at least 1 atomic truck, or if you have no attack, the next one is always an attack or stuff like that) but we also realized that we enjoy sleeping as well :)) We just didn't come to implement it before all of the very basic gameplay elements were done. We also don't like how some rng rolls just lead to a lot of waiting.
Thanks a lot for the feedback!

@ale you should've used those brains to shuffle trucks to get attack mutations! But yea, we didn't really have time for any balancing. ;) hope you had fun anyway

Great game! A bit confusing in the beginning, but after a few minutes you got the hang of it! Wish there was more!
The only minus would be the interpretation of the theme. It felt more like you tried to kill the opponent, than actually trying to keep the meatball alive. Other then that, great entry!

Cool idea! The arm doesn't seem to deal any damage, but I like the gameconcept!

I was observing this game growing among other ludum dare posts and I was sending it to my team friends as we were curious what the final effect would be xD A nice entry, it was funny and smart game. As some other people mentioned, it could use some more in-depth tutorial in game but for mutations but actually for me it's not that much of a case here. I enjoyed it as it is, being able to destroy godzilla was for sure one of dreams of mine. keep it up! xD

it was hard to stop playing to be honest because after it became clear that my choices mattered and I could strategize.

I followed you guys from the feed because I was intrigued by the brain, I'm pleased to have tried the end result ヾ(^▽^*)))

nice work!! :D

Wow- really nice graphics and gameplay- you had me playing until I could beat Gymzilla, or is it Gylla?!

Such a cool concept and pro execution! Thanks for the game!

Pretty gross and awesome visuals! Love the big-battle feels & lasers!
It was a bit strange to be able to have mutations that do not work on your body - it was hard to tell what the mutations did and how I should activate them (of if they could not?)

Nevertheless a cool and unique game

Wow. Just wow.

Loved the visuals. For the first few times playing I kept getting distracted by how stuff looked. Also had to play around a bit to figure out what some of the mutations actually did, just needed it to be slightly clearer.

Gameplay was great, pretty fun. But playing a few times made it obvious that how "easy" it is depends on RNG. However, was never really screwed over by it to the point i felt it was unfair.

Funny game! Meatball vs Gozilla, well that's definitely something I haven't played before! The mutations all have different uses and you actually need a bit of strategy to win. The trucks are a funny addition and fit into the overall theme of the game. All-in-all a bit gross and crazy, but I guess that was intended :) Good job!

freakishly nice game, graphics are gorgeous, the resource based combat works well, the random picktrucks don't feel that embarrasing as a lot of "lootsystems" are. Although the sound & music could be a bit more impactful and more powerful. I really like the mutations, though I would like I could choose a mutation than to get told which one I get from a nuketrashtruck. When I evaluate an entry of a team, I rate it more strictly, than the work of a single person or a duo, however meatball vs gymzilla got maximum on graphics, and only theme & music were average, the rest lies in between imo :dvd:.
