Find your exit!

You're stuck at the centre of the world's largest roundabout! You don't know how you got there. To be honest, you're not really convinced of the practicality of such a large roundabout. Regardless, you're in the middle and you need to get out!

How to Play

What to do

Change lanes while avoiding collisions with other vehicles. When you're at the outermost lane, wait for your exit and then head out!

car1<em>small.png Red lanes are fast lanes. You know... because red goes faster? carpool</em>small.png Blue lanes are carpool lanes. They generally go slower (because they don't want to spill the water in their carpools).

Controls

"Roundabout Way" supports both keyboard and controller input.

| Control | Description | |-----------------------------------|--------------------------------------| | Left / A / D-Pad Left | Move one lane closer to the centre | | Right / D / D-Pad Right | Move one lane further from the centre| | Up / W / Right Trigger | Accelerate | | Down / S / Left Trigger | Slow Down |

Ok, now I have tried it for real.

This game is a delight to play!

* First of all, great music!
* Second, I thought the crashing cars was executed so great! I have to admit I tried crashing the cars on purpose to see what would happen. really awesome camera work with being slightly out of focus!
* Lastly, this was a perfect match with the theme!

Great job, I had a lot of fun!

Freedom!

This entry is awesome! It's quite short but very fun to play! I love your attention for details with the resulting car crash when failing. The 3D models are really well done and the music is a 5-stars!

Great entry !

Excellent entry! Simple and fun, with great fitting music to accompany it. Very satisfying to slot yourself in between cars in the next circle at the perfect speed multiple times in a row.

Super fun game, I really liked the feel and the controls. Excellent graphics, also. One comment: I wasn't really sure what the arrow was supposed to be doing at first. It took me a little while to realize that it indicated where on the outer circle to go. Maybe make it a bit more clear?

sorry but it doesnt work in brave browser. I've seen like half the unity games fail in brave... probably depends how the webgl build was done...

The music and sound design for this game was great, the song fit perfectly with the a e s t h e t i c and the the sounds were all executed well aside from the crash sound which I felt was a bit delayed. The models were very nice and the animations and controls were all very smooth. Great Entry!

I got 32:40. A little easy, only crashed once. But I thought this controlled really, really nicely and intuitively. I thought it would make me dizzy at first, but I made it out okay.

Pretty chill music, too!

This is definitely going to be one of the highest rated games this jam, I'm calling it now. Just... so simple and yet so fun. Its absolutely perfect! ... okay so I mean nothing is perfect, but I mean this game is great! Its one of my absolute favorites at the moment. Thank you for making such an enjoyable experience!

@seth-tal Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Is there any chance of getting a WebGL or Linux build of your game so that I can try it out?
Seth Tal
06. Oct 2020 · 05:43 UTC
@tad No, THANK U! haha anyways, I tried really hard to get my game to function on webGL but unity just refuses to compile a working build. I still have a little over 24 hours to get one sorted out though so if you happen to peak at my entry again you will know. (I will try a linux build though! Do you know of an easy way I can test the linux build if I don't currently have access to a linux OS? Maybe WSL?)

Wow, that was a lot of fun! Simple controls and concept and it really captures the feeling of fighting rush-hour traffic.

It is also a lot of fun watching the madness on the game over screen after you crash!

Loved everything about this, the music, the aesthetics, being able to see the chaos unfold at the Uh Oh screen :)

@tad I was too curious to see if I could do it, so I updated the itch.io page with a Linux build for my game if you're still interested haha. I tested the build on 64bit Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS off a virtual machine so uh.. good luck.

Solid fun! I was quite struggling at first, having forgotten that I am able to accelerate and break, not only swap lanes. Maybe an Input reminder on the Game page or better in-game would prevent this?

Very, very fun game. Amzing execution with a simple working concept, perfect for a game Jam. Nice work. I agree with the comment above, at first, I didn't know I could accelerate or brake. Amazing music by the way! It goes perfectly with the game! :musical_keyboard:

It's a very simple concept and yet playing this game feels really good! Too bad it's so quick to finish! The music is obviously a delight, the graphics are on point, and the controls work well! For more difficulty, you could imagine having the car constantly lose speed, you'd have to regularly compensate with the acceleration input (did somebody say Flappy Bird?)

06. Oct 2020 · 18:00 UTC
Managed to get 28 around seconds as my best time. This was really fun, made funny by witnessing the multi-car pileup on the roundabout whenever you fail. Especially like how everytime you change lanes, the distance to drive requires you to change speed alongside the differing speed of the cars.

06. Oct 2020 · 22:52 UTC
27.813 is my best time so far. really love the idea and execution of it, not just putting you there, but telling a charming little story first which perfectly fits the tone the music sets. really liked it, now i kinda wished i had done this in 2d :D took me a few seconds to realize one doesnt accelerate/brake by holding the button but by repeatedly pressing it. calling it "switch gears" instead of accelerate/breke can probably avoid a little confusion there :)

07. Oct 2020 · 00:05 UTC
it would be nice if return key could be used to return to the menu, at the moment I need the mouse for this (I played the web version)

i like the end screen when all cars crash into each other
and now I am ready for Paris
Tad
07. Oct 2020 · 08:37 UTC
@shanzhai You should be able to accelerate just by holding the up key down. Is that not working for you?

@oxropy It's a good point - we probably should have had "r" as a restart button. At the moment, you can press esc and then enter to get back into the game from the "uh-oh" screen, if that helps! :)
Shanzhai
07. Oct 2020 · 08:56 UTC
@tad nope, i had to repeatedly press it with every button press accelerating a noticeable step - to change speed from the initial regular lane to the red one takes two presses for me. keeping the button pressed just changed speed by one step and stayed that way. (played the html5-version on chrome, using wasd controls)

Very nice and good looking game. A perfect example of a LD game! Simple, quick and fun. The graphics, music and SFX are very nice. The gameplay is simple but addictive.

I might be nitpicking but I have two points: It would be nice to be able to restart the game immediately, instead of going to the main-menu and then click "begin".
And because of the randomization of the cars (which is a nice feature) you can get lucky with your fastest time

Overall very well done, I really liked it!

I drive through Place de l'Etoile in Paris, you thought this would be a challenge? :p

Very fun game: good graphics, great music and perfectly fits in the theme. Only complaint would be that it's a bit short: it would gain to have multiples levels (but I understand it easier said than done, especially with limited time during the jam). Overall, it's a really good game

I love this type of games! And this was executed so very well! My only two complaints would be:
- Don't force me to return to menu and then back to game. Just let me press enter or something so I can try again as soon as possible! Since there is so much accidents waiting to happen, it can be quite frustrating to be forced to do two clicks just to get back to the game
- I was quite confused why my truck was losing speed when switching lanes. It seems logical to me if one would remain their speed that they have to change manually. Sometimes this was unpredictable and frustrating.

But seriously, I enjoyed the game so very much, played it for way too long - these were only two problems I had with otherwise great game with great sounds and graphics. Nice job!!!

This is delightful! The whole aesthetic's really cohesive, and watching all the cars slowly crash after failing to escape is wonderful. I could've gone for a bit more juice in the car's handling, and a quicker way to restart on failures, but those are extremely minor points.

Hey there!

Feel free to ignore most of the things due to jam scope, etc, but I'm giving feedback assumming you would keep working in the game.

Could've been better:
- Accessibility things such as adding UI controls with the same input you use for the game
- Gameplay variety: such as different levels layouts
- Customization: Choosing your car color before you play
- Floating UI arrow is not well communicated, kinda confusing and hard to understand at first

Good points:
- Working with gamepad, that's cool
- Scope size the project is short and sweet
- Easily understandable, quick to learn and play

Did you guys model everything and made all music? That's impressive. The track is really cool, congrats Tad!

If my comment was helpful, don't forget to like it!
... and if you can, open my profile page and leave feedback on our game as well <3

Thanks for the experience you provided with your game!

Your game is very beautiful! It's a little tricky to get the hang of it at first, but then everything is more comfortable to play. I really liked the music, extremely pleasant, as well as the graphics. The mechanics of trying to enter the street lanes without crashing the car is also very creative. It is an excellent interpretation of the theme. Congratulations.

This is a really decent entry, it was fun trying to find an opening in the next lane or backtracking to find a better spot, the music and aesthetic of the art gave it a chill vibe, nicely done.
