It was a giant hamster all along!

I really liked the intro and initial mood of this game, how did you do this intro? Gameplay itself seemed a little confusing at first but it doesn't really matter that much.

Great take on the theme of depression and the creator's block. Problems keep piling, and you just can't see the end of this. That game made me reflects on things in my life, which is what art should be about. v

Really interesting entry, in many ways very different from anything I've played of yours yet! Love the fmv intro as always, this one was particularly intense. Gameplay was both unique and fun so congrats! Really loved the abstract art background.

Had a couple questions:

How did you decide on the pattern for the players special "block moving" ability? Seems quite specific and was wondering if there was a technical reason for choosing it.

Also what is the animal powering the hospital bed at the end? Giant hamster? Apologies if it isn't meant to be a specific animal.

Overall story really spoke to me so thanks for that.

I'm guessing it's intentional, so nice touch with the bottom of the level being out of view. I think I understand that as a metaphor right?

@tomeks @fallingflatstudios Thank you! I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed the experience.

@samdwester :hamster: Yes! Although some players have considered it a hot-dog! :hotdog:

---

@bereg Thanks! I'm really glad you could reflect upon the themes in the game. That's what makes producing stuff like this worthwhile.

@lesinvisible The intro was shot with [PlayStation Eye](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Eye). I converted the video to GIF-format, cut a lot of excess-frames and made it loop.

![Marble.png](///raw/e4c/2/z/3a0d2.png)

To make the typewriter rotate, I placed it on this chakla/chapati rolling-board. The audio you hear during the intro comes from the board too.

One could achieve a similar result with frame-by-frame stop-motion, but obviously this method is faster.

@jam373 The pattern of the "orb-skill" was a result of some experimentation when I was preparing my [base-code](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/i-cant-get-anything-done/some-thoughts-about-the-base-code), and the end-result was something I enjoyed myself. Originally I made it because I had to figure out a way to move boxes that get stuck in corners. But then I realised that you could also use it to stack them! At its current state the mechanic does the job quite well.

My intention was to develop it further during the COMPO and give you more control over the orb (such as shooting it downwards), but didn't get around doing that. Who knows, maybe I will utilize the mechanic to a greater extent someday!

The animal running in the wheel is supposed to be a hamster :hamster: , but I drew the whole hospital-scene in less than a hour so it looks somewhat silly.

And I think I just forgot to put a tile in the bottom-right corner. But I guess the end-result pleased me enough, because I forgot! Admittedly it would also work as a metaphor in the overall story.

@dis0rder Ah cool! Well what is art if not a series of happy accidents.

I really liked the intro but I didn't really understand what you were supposed to do after that. The main mechanic was interesting too

Cool idea. The intro is a nice touch.

I'm not sure what the end was all about but still liked it. Love the Hamster/Hot-Dog ;) haha

My favorite game so far !!! YES for the epic introductory animation, YES for the soundtrack, YES for the mood, YES for the hamster cage and moreover, YES for the first game that I play where I really find a feature innovative: that game mechanics with the "x" button is surely interesting ! I was also pleased with the physics of the elevator, it's only a detail but it does make a difference.

The only thing is I'm not sure that I got what it was about :D

Yo Dis0rder,

Wow, the cutscene FMV was stellar! Pretty mind-blowing and really put across an immense feeling of dread.

I enjoyed the main mechanic a lot and I hope you make more content with it in the future. I did struggle a bit with the very first part (I didn't know what to do with the blocks), so perhaps a little more onboarding could help. The 2nd part was really cool though with the funky elevator, then a little nod to the ludum dare theme, and then "the pit".

The ending was very whacky, I would have loved to see another FMV! In fact, you should definitely consider making a purely FMV game, you got talent that's for sure!

Cool game!

*By the way, thank you for playing our game and the feedback (we fixed the game-breaking bugs if you would want to try again! Cheers).*

Hello, loved the multiple ideas you had in the gameplay, immediately attempted to try and jump to the lowest platform at the start using the boxes :) I wish you would extend this at some point in the future, because the elevator was an awesome "aha! oh no!" moment.

FMV stellar, music very much fitting and unsettling, the ending seemed a bit abrupt to me, but the experience as a whole was great! Thank you!

[Thanks for submitting this to the stream this weekend!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/780628065?t=01h46m01s)

I think we said pretty much everything we wanted to in the VOD, but just to reiterate: We like what you have going on here! We may worry that the audience that might play it in a jam setting might not necessarily be the people that vibe with it the most, but we always appreciate it when a creator takes risks and attempts to make something personal and unique. Mad respect for that!

Mhh, yes! Loved how the gameplay mirrored your overarching topic (right at the beginning, the sloppy lift is such a genius interpretation of how it feels to not get forward with your plans, for example!) - also getting stuck at a point REALLY hammers the whole idea of getting "Stuck in a Loop" home!
