Kombo Krusader by kankje

[raw]
made by kankje for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

You are the Kombo Krusader, the worst fear of many evil beings. This time you've traveled to the Universe of Programmer Art to slay the abominations created by busy programmers.

What separates you from other generic heroes is your proficiency in combos. Unfortunately after years of crusading you've become addicted to these combos and will die quickly if you don't get your fill.

While the task at hand seems trivial, you sense a greater evil looming... (there's a boss at the end!)

Keep the combo alive.

This one was simple, but really fun! I thouroughly enjoyed playing it, the pixel art is crisp and nice to look at, all in all, a simple yet fun game.

Very fun to play! Music sounds nice and the controlls are pretty sharp :D Only complaint I'd have is that the special attack animation takes a bit too long

Really tidy gameplay loop, very Katana Zero! The time between taking damage and hits could be a tiny bit longer, or spawn more enemies...

Easily understandable gameplay, but a lot of fun and challenge! Very difficult on the trackpad :D

Nice work!

Simple enough but for someone who doesn't play a lot of shmup games I found the controls a little hectic to work with, saying that I playing multiple times getting a bit better every time as I really want to see how it ended (i couldn't as ran out of time to play).

I did notice that at one point the audio faded out and didn't return for like a minute or two, wasn't quite sure what was going on with that.

This game was really good. I'm going to keep playing until i beat the boss.

edit: Ugh, can't beat the boss. Have to give up for the sake of my fingers.

Definite Wizard of Legend vibes... a fun encapsulation of that kind of play, broken down and made even more frantic. Nice work!

This was awesome!!! I struggled with the boss a lot but it was really fun.

I would love to have a mode where it is just endless score attack, I would play that a lot. The mechanics are so tight, everthing is just very well made. Graphics are nice and coherent, the music is very fitting and help you get into the zone.

Here is a GIF of me playing up until the boss: https://gyazo.com/88c518656376be874ceaff550522af94

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have reliable controls in a ludum dare entry :P It's often the case that even the simplest entries have confusing control schemes and floaty character movement. You basically nailed that aspect.

And as far as programmer art goes, this is pretty consistent and inoffensive. I'd rather have this 10 times out of 10 than bad "good" art which has lots of inconsistency and takes away from gameplay, so well done in keeping the right focus!

Solid entry!
