BUBBLE BOY by NEKORUMA
i made this little tamagochi simulator for ludum dare 46: theme "keep it alive".
It is my first finished project, when reading the topic of the ludum dare I thought about the tamagotchis that I played as a child in the 90s.
I was also inspired by the Nintendo game & watch, obvious by its design :D
I have done it with Construct 2, the graphics are made with Photoshop and Aseprite. For sounds use SFXR, GSCC and Melody Raiser.
Although it is a small and simple game, I hope you like it! :D

I really have no complaints! A true and tried formula, but well executed!
Gameplay is a bit simple, but I think it's perfect for the game you did.
One thing for you to think about if you plan to improve this game in the future: at some point I stopped looking at the animation and just keep clicking the buttons. I didn't even have to look at the status bar for each of the actions. Just click. What would be a good reward for the player in order to look at the screen? No idea, honestly, but I think if you can figure out, you'll have a great game in your hands (pun intended).
Great work! One of my favorites :)
But the style, art, music, aesthetic etc. were absolutely top notch. Also very closely tied to the theme, which I feel many of the submissions are only very loosely linked.
@keanutah thanks !! yes is very repetitive the music , but but I thought it would be more realistic like that, like the real tamagotchis hahhah also thanks for the suggestion, I think that for a future version I will put different types of music that will change depending on the state of the tamagotchi or perhaps short loops for each activity
Great work!
At first I thought I was looking at the title screen, and realized while looking for the start button that I was already playing. Just a minor setback, I was able to jump right in and catch up./
@tomeks thanks!! is my fist finished proyect ,But I have been making small protos for a couple of years, I thought I was less prepared for a jam, but I am happy with the result !!
@incd021 thanks!! your words make me more happy!!
@bonyok77 thanks!!
@lawnchair-society thanks!! is also my childhood!
@mhykah thanks!! the idea is that it was a loop, like in real tamagotchis.
Maybe it would be nice if it were longer, but I'm not a musician and I did what I could, sorry!
@rodrigo-castro thanks for yours words! I am thinking of news for a future version!! gracias :D
@takase thanks!!
@fizzget thanks!!If you press clean and the bar is above 8 points, it is completely clean. as the bar goes down more poop appears
@khopa thanks!!! i love the game and watch games!!
@aronms thanks! I also thought it was necessary hahaha
@caveman54 thanks for yours words!! I was scared to present something in my first jam, my morale has risen!
The gameplay itself is just clicking a button when the corresponding bar gets smaller, just with a nice coat of paint. But in that same thought, if Tamagotchi were made in 48 hours, I'm sure it would be very much the same. I don't know if they could have done this will with the restrictions you had.
This was a joy to play.
Music is repetitive but sets the correct mood, visually looks great and crossing-over with G&W is not bad idea at all :)
One minor tweak would be the colour of the red for the fake "nintendo" logo, if it wasn't as bright red and more like the border colour it would stand out against the grey background a lot better.
Thanks!
I would say it is a little repetitive though but I'm guessing there wasn't enough time to add any other features! Maybe something simple like sometimes he gets sick then certain stats will drop quicker and you have to help him get better. Or adding baby, teen, adult and elderly type stages like tamagotchi would change it up a little even if the activity animations are kept the same.
Overall, a great game! Well done!
Killed it once, ignored fun completely on the second play through. It seems fun does not matter.
Really liked the graphics and the sound, and how everything was animated! Well done!
Sure the time limitations on a compo-jam would make it very hard, so instead just add a bit more of flavor, like an age counter (maybe go up every 5 minutes?) and with it some things may change (while age between 1 and 6, fun would decrease faster, being more important to play often, ig.) or even having the actions you perform have multiple effects (you could have "dine" and that give lots of food, or snack, giving a small amount of food and fun ig.)
Anyways, congrats on your project!
I just wished that the game had some difficulty to it.
I felt like I was just spamming the buttons and it was totally enough to keep it alive.
No real challenge to it.
But remembering those things from my childhood, it was about the right timing to put it out of your pocket and do something with it. I don't think it's really translatable to a computer game.
But all in all, it shows that you've put some effort into making it feel nice.
Well done.
I really liked what you did here!
It's simple but well done. The only thing that'd make it even better would be the tamagotchi style evolution, and a different death anim, maybe based on what you neglected the most ( if no air, no food, no fun, too much poop etc! )
I just wish the bars didn't decrease so quickly. It made it so things felt like more of a "how quickly you can press all 6 buttons" simulator instead of a relaxing pet raising game.
And hey if it's your first game jam? Absolutely stunning job!
