I absolutely adore this game! First off, it looks very cute, while the controls are a bit wonky they actually add to the mechanics of the game, and then when you finish the zoom out into the other snail is great! Great job with this!

I like the take on the theme with that end zoomout. Fun to play. Only thing is i felt my snail was drifting.sliding more than actually crawling . Maybe it is because the speed of the snail was faster than the speed of the animation? . I also might just be me

A very simple idea but with a solid execution! The gameplay and the controls feel good. The environment art could maybe use some refinement, but I understand that it's harder as the environment needs to match the player character's shell. The zoom out at the end was a really cool surprise, great job!

30.43 here, @ausstein is too good!

I definitely played this several times and I enjoyed trying to beat my score. The twist at the end is great and seals in the theme perfectly.

Gameplaywise it makes for a great speedrunning game. A bit of difficult controls and also tight paths to navigate make for some very fun challenges. Very fun game, and satisfies my desire to live and race as a snail :)

@peachtreeoath

I spent way more time than I'd like to admit optimizing the speedrun 0.1s at a time :D

I hit exactly 28.13 3 times before I managed to shave off another .13s. I feel if you use the strategies from my speedrun videos you should be able to make the sub 30 club. Just hit the turn key about 0.5 secs before you actually need to turn.

[THE STREAMER BECOMES THE STREAMED!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766889390?t=00h12m10s)

I feel like I got way more into this one than I anticipated. Having a record to beat seems to awaken something in me that I didn't know I had...

Also, the engineer in me was uber pleased when he saw that inception effect that starts a round over. That was super duper slick. :ok_hand:

I think the simple premise here actually lends itself well to a time-trial. It really makes the player search for any sort of exploits that they can take advantage off to shave off some time. Although I can't believe y'all are able to get less than 30-second runs. You peeps be nuts...

Ok definitely the best implementation of the theme I've seen, since you're stuck in a loop in more ways than one.

The replay mechanic/animation is super cool, kudos on the technical aspect of that.

Not suuuper fun to play since the mechanic is just destruction derby, but I definitely gave it 4 or 5 runs.

Great animation and sound effect, and also could have done with more juice (particles / screen shake / etc) and more satisfying race mechanics (different acceleration curve / higher max speed / drifting / different collision physics / etc).

Also I love that they're snails :D But I found myself swearing at the "enemy" snails

Good job!

16. Oct 2020 · 20:15 UTC
My best was around 35 seconds. The meta transition is a nice effect, the art style is a bit too simple, but enhancing the level design would kind of defeat the point of the level being the snail so that's fine (I hope that makes sense :P ). My favorite jam game in terms of theme implementation.

Welp, I got 38 seconds as my record. The ending twist was a really cool and rewarding visual effect. I also admit that the game was a bit too simple for me.

I was actually caught off-guard first, when I played the game: in the title screen, it only displayed WASD, so I assumed my controls were based on regular top-down movement. Instead, what I got was a physics-based tank controls, which took a little while to get used to. I also had difficulty getting used to the slippery controls, hindering my ability to optimize my movement.

The only other constructive criticism was that at first blush, the collision box of the snail looks like the whole snail would be relevant, rather than only its shell. While not a bad game design decisioin, it does have an unintended side effect of making the player think they need to make wider turns, because they think the snail's long body would collide into it. It also disoriented me on estimating when two snails would collide.

Nicely done! Game play is rather short but fun enough while it lasts. I like how the snails control like space ships :D The art is basic but I kinda like the damp grey scale aesthetics. The controls were snappy and the collision detection and collision feedback was satisfying. The core game play loop was veeery basic though, not much to keep the player engaged. I didn't feel like going around the track a second time, after doing it once, because there wasn't much interesting stuff going on mechanically. The looping transition at the end was very well made, by the way. That really put a smile on my face :) You really hit a theme home run with this visual gag.

All in all, a rather basic snail-spaceship racing game with little variation in game play but well implemented technically. I wished there was a little more to it! Still, good job :)

sub 1min, but i guess that is not too hot. Snail guys are a classy bunch, interesting choice to grayscale the player character, but i think it works. Controls felt smooth and responsive, and the hit boxes felt true to the obstacles. Well done overall, good example of executing within the original concept and polishing that into something both fun and playable.
