Space Base Continuum by Gizmolo

[raw]
made by Gizmolo for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

The aliens are attacking! Your only chance is to build up your base by building barracks and recruiting marines!

Controls

  • Left click on a unit to select them
  • Right click to move selected unit
  • B to build barracks (when worker is selected)

How To Play

  • This is a simple RTS survival game
  • You are in control of the sole worker (green guy) and marines (blue guy)
  • You can only control one unit at a time
  • Use "B" key to build barracks with worker
  • Barracks will spawn marines over time
  • Marines will shoot at an alien when in proximity
  • Aliens will target a random unit or structure and damage it upon contact
  • Try and stop the aliens before they kill your base!
  • Worker can't get targeted but can still die

This game was built entirely with TypeScript. I used a custom game framework I wrote in the language you can find here GitHub. Three.js is used for the rendering layer and Aseprite was used to create all the assets.

The music was very chill and I think it really kind of elevated the game quite a bit. Normally, this kind of thing would be super stressful because it's overwhelming, but this was chill.

The game is pretty basic, but it's also okay. It's not very balanced and it seems too easy to get overwhelmed. There might be a resource leak that's slowing down the game on each restart as the thing slowed to a crawl on try three.

A simple and fun little game. I like both music and visual style. The controls could have been mate easier to understand, and the game felt a bit short. Overall I really liked this little game. Well done.

I got crushed pretty fast! Gameplay was nice, and I liked the concept. Graphics were correct and the music was a nice touch. I can see how this could be expanded. Good job!

Would like to get more options or see how fast were marines spawned, however you have not used unity or any other software and created your own framework which is for solo entry quite amazing! P.S. That background music is really good :)
