end (0-00-00-00).png

The world is dying. Trees, grass, animals, everything is falling apart...

Someone need to go to the Waktu sanctuary, on the eastern edge, near the end of the world.

I am now too old to do it. But for you, the journey only begins...

Saisons is a contemplative adventure game where your character has to save the world by playing a magical flute.

Move the character with the left and right arrow keys, take out your flute with the down arrow key (put it away with the up arrow key), and play music with the x, c, v, b, and n keys.

Post-Ludum version: note that the HTML5 version is a post-Ludum one. You can download the Ludum version for Windows and MacOS on the bottom of the page (though we strongly recommend you the new one instead :) ). The post-Ludum version has the same gameplay features, but simply include more interaction events. Given the little time we had during this Ludum Dare, we can still ensure that even this latest version was made within 72h...

One-eye from Øje makes a reappearance! I loved the graphics and mood. Finished the game once, and went through a few screens but wasn't sure if there was more, didn't notice any changes. I'm not sure if it was a bug, but the second run I wasn't able to use the flute after talking the farmer. Regardless, great entry, loved it!

@jusw85, he was already there in our first Ludum Dare entry ...
![sN-kgR.png](///raw/f48/c/z/39a37.png)

About Saisons, there is effectively no change in the following runs, this our interpretation of "Stuck in a loop".
If we had had more time we would have added a little system of achievements linked to some events that can be played on the flute, but you know... 72 hours only!
Thank you for your comment :)

Wow this is gorgeous. I'm in love with the art style and audio is very good as well. There's really not much in terms of interaction though, but the story is cute ! Well done !

I love this so much.

The art is amazing, the parallax effect (or is it real 3D?) is fantastic, the far away camera makes everything beautiful. The ambiance sounds are great, the flute sounds are too.
The gameplay is very good. I had a hard time at the end because I really don't have a musical ear, but it was not frustrating and just very calming.

One of my favorite of the jam for sure, thanks for making this 💕

Wonderful, minimalist art! So soothing and special. I feel wasn't able to make any changes in the world with my flute, and got stuck on the final sanctuary, even though my notes were correct? Either way, I really enjoyed the game and am all chilled out now

Very intersting concept with an art style that stands out. The mechanichs incorporating music generated by user actions fitting in the ost is very interesting. A very well done effort!

Wonderful work as always~

These one-eyed characters have become your trademark by now
I love the animation when he sits to play the flute :')

I couldn't finish the game but our musician did, and that's why I can comment now

Keep up the great work!

Nice and serene little game. I really loved the art style. The audio was nice as well (I would however have loved for the flute to have a more "flutey" sound.). I especially like the spatial effect as I passed the sound sources like the spring.

I wasn't really able to finish it - are we supposed to repeat the melody? Because I'm pretty sure I did that, but nothing happened.

Thanks for playing everyone!
@onkel-mo yes you have to repeat the melody, which is actually 'cvnbvxv' (Bb C Eb Db C Ab C). Too bad you couldn't finish the game, it's the only way to understand our take on the theme 'Stuck in a loop' :)

@gaming-night Ah, thanks! My hearing is not as good as I thought it was - I had the melody at cvbnvxv. Will give it another shot later!

I like the story, the visuals and the atmosphere. I could never make the playing the flute working, I believe I played the right notes, but I did not see anything happening.

This was great. The world feels big and alive. The graphics are really really beautiful. I love the style. The music and sound effects are spot on. The atmoshpere is great. The gameplay itself is a narrative driven experience which I like and the main mechanic ties into all that perfectly. At some point I just sat at the campfire to play the lute. Very relaxing experience. I did see the ending coming, but this doesn't take away anything from the game. It reminds me of The Messenger and Outer Wilds which in itself is a compliment. One very small thing I noticed - the scene with the campfire is very dark and the text is har to read - maybe make it white just for that scene? Anyway, this is as much constructive critisism as I have. I loved everything else. Great job!

@jk5000, what build did you play on? maybe we missed a bug somewhere.
If there is no bug maybe you were too far from the interactive elements. We should surely have included a more visible feedback indicating to the player that he is in the right zone :/

@cosmicpickle, Indeed the level of the mountain is very dark, this ludum was the opportunity for us to try ourselves for the first time at the lights in unity, we objectively did not really succeed in transcribing an atmosphere of sunset in the village then night in the mountain ... But we are progressing :)
Thank you for your compliments and criticisms!

conclusion : we maybe have to implement some highlight when the player is near the interactive elements.

Nice little game here. Somehow the aesthetics remembers me of Clysm's [Seilus](http://www.autofish.net/clysm/art/video_games/seiklus/index.html) and other Game Maker gems of the era.

At the Sanctuary scene, I spent too many time trying to copy the background music that uses the same flute sound of players flute, instead of Sanctuary sound 😁 But that's part of challenge.

Really unique experience :) this is the first of it's kind this jam. I really enjoyed the focus on audio and playing music in your game. It doesn't hold your hand and solving the "riddles" was really fun. Controls worked pretty well, though, changing notes fast didn't really work that well. The mood was also very well established since the audio visuals are amazing! The nuanced lighting effects worked wonders to immerse the player. I think the camera was a little too far away for my taste. Everything was very tiny. The theme was incorporated, but it was very subtle and didn't really add something significant to the game play itself. (which wasn't a huge deal)

All in all, a very atmopsheric and moody game. Loved the audio visuals and the focus on playing music :) good job!

A really clever interpretation of the theme (one I saw coming, but only because I know what the theme is). I actually went round twice just to try and make sure I got all the interaction spots. I had a lot of difficulty with the final tune, and from reading the reviews, I'm not the only one; I think it needs some work to make it easier to solve.

I'd also suggest changing the area transitions so that you don't have to walk so far off-screen before moving to the next area. The first time I walked off-screen and nothing happened, I honestly assumed it was a glitch and that the camera had stopped panning for some reason. It was only when I kept walking that I realised I hadn't gone far enough to trigger the transition.

I feel like I've written a lot of criticism here, so I just want to emphasise: this is a very good game. The graphics, audio, and general atmosphere are all very well done, and the gameplay is unique and creative. It just needs a few tweaks to make it even better.

@f1krazy, thank you for this constructive feedback, they are more than welcome because they help us improve :)
And to be honest we pretty much agree on how to improve the game!

One way to improve the melody / scenery interaction would have been to display a score in flute mode with the correct notes.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and provide such a comprehensive comment!

What a beautiful interpretation, if not one of my favorite of this jam. Sometimes, most simple choices are the most effective, and I think you did pretty great for your entry, graphic and sound design wise. With just a few adjustments, maybe a bigger storytelling, reducing the time to go off the screen, that's a game I could easily buy :). Keep up the good work!

Cheers

Really great, especially in the mood category. Also lol the dialog sounds, reminds me of galaxy quest :p The parallax trees/etc are a nice touch too. The whole game is really beautiful - the atmosphere, the sound design, the art - I especially love the part where there's a bunch of blue glowing firefly kinda things in the dark, they're so pretty :)

I love music games and I love how this game incorporates music in such a simple way. If this wasn't a jam game, I would have liked to have seen an easier setting to make the game more accessible. As you mentioned in the comments, I like the idea of achievements for this game.

Incredibly moody and elegant adventure. I really loved how tiny everything was (although text should be a bigger, not easy to read for everyone). I got immersed right from the start, the visuals and the audio were really tied up creating a strong and unique experience. Audio puzzles were nothing too original, but they were introduced very well and really part of the story. Congratulations!

This is great. The world is gorgeous and very immersive.

I only wish I wasn't so tone-deaf that I couldn't repeat any melody except the first one. It would be great if there were some visual clues for the musically impaired people like me.

@gaming-night Thanks, admittedly the song parts came late in the jam and are pretty hacky (hardcoded strings of notes and delays, notes are swapped by a coroutine that then waits the delay until the next note)

Very pretty! I love the graphics and design, really nice gentle use of parallax and lighting effects. The music / sounds were very good and added to the atmosphere too.

I did feel I spent half of the game entering / exiting the screens which did get a little tiring as there wasn't much new to look at then.

Overall, really cool :)
