Paper Disco by Moskoman

[raw]
made by Moskoman for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

It's not over! It's never over! As long as there's a beat flowing, we will keep on grooooooooovying, baby! Help T. Maia, the Grooviest motherfucker of all time, to keep boogie alive by saving Groovyana Boogiensis, the last root of all groovy!

Use WASD or Arrow Keys to move acording to the beat and interact with objects. Use SpaceBar to drop the plant, if needed! Keep the plant alive during the whole duration of the song to win!

Ok that was really really fun to play. I did not manage to use the calibrate button, but I would have loved to because I had to click out of tempo. Nevertheless awesome game, great spirit with various levels and good vibes !

I don't like playing Crypt of the Necrodancer because of the roguelike aspect... and this is the move-with-beat mechanic but in a puzzle game! I really love it, great work!

(e eu adorei a referência a Tim Maia!)

Really like the music and character designs! It took me a few seconds to pick up on how the movement system exactly work but once I got the hang of it it was really fun! The graphics and lighting make this look like a really high quality game. I do think it does need a save system(although probably ran out of time). That would make the game more repayable.

I have never played a rhythm game before, so this was my first time experience with this genre. As a musician with over 30 years experience, I felt that the timing was not synced properly, but then again, it could also be my inexperience with this game genre, maybe I just need a little more practice. The graphics were awesome, the music was equally amazing, and I really loved the look and feel of the game. The main character was a hoot, and the presentation of dialogue was groovy, to say the least. Much respect and enthusiasm. Best to you! Good luck with the voting, I think you'll do well.

Love the art and music it really did give off the disco vibes. Unfortunately I was unable to finish the 3rd level, it seems the ai is very RNG getting the plant was very difficult. never the less I really enjoyed the other t levels. Well gone guys!!!

This game was really fun! The audio was groovy, and the graphics had a great aesthetic. I was irritated that the main dancing mechanic was nearly identical to the one in Crypt of the Necrodancer. However outside of tht, I enjoyed it.

From the moment I saw the character T. Maia and read the words "Motherf***ers" I INSTANTLY thought of one man, Samuel L Jackson, I really loved all the inspiration you took, and the AUDIO was incredible heck even getting beaten up by some Space Chicken stays with the beat of the MUSIC.
Amazing game, good work.

Great audio, design, and feel! I would like to have seen some sort of calibration. I felt like I had to move ahead of the beat in order for it to move in time, which made the game a little difficult for me. I'd also like more of a chance to recover after dropping the plant. It flt like if I missed just one beat, or get hit once, I just have to wait for the level to end. I'd also like to save the game some how so that I can come back without having to start completly over. Overall, great work and I look forward to seeing it develop.

So, I'm not normally someone who plays rhythym games, I normally don't really enjoy them. This was really, really good though. The music, graphics and gameplay were all spot on, well done!

Fun game! The art looks great and goes well with the mood. I feel like the beat accuracy is a little too punishing though!

I like how you conveyed some personality in the enemies with their AI (one always goes for the plant and the other just want to punch you). My only gripe with the game is that the stun duration is too long, once you are hit the level is basically over, since the enemies will destroy the plant before you can move again. Anyway, great presentation!

I like this! It had some great thought put into it making it a unique experience. The way the characters moved to the beat worked very well. I like how the levels had different patterns, traps and enemies to keep it fresh and not repetitive. The game also looked great. This was a quality entry! Fantastic work.

Nice game! I am not sure how necessary the mechanic of walking towards the plant to pick it up was, it only rarely seemed to play a role. Most of the times I got hit I was ready to just lose the round and I felt it was only RNG when I did not. Otherwise the game felt quite coherent, the music was pleasant, the gameplay simple but satisfying.

Adorei a música! Um baita swing, digno do Tim. A arte também está muito bonita. Talvez, em uma versão mais desenvolvida, diminuir o tamanho dos pixels nas imagens grandes para dar mais definição e nitidez.

Parabéns pelo jogo!

If you don't undestand nothing, use Google trasnlate. I Wrote in Brazilian-portuguese.

Remember that time I kept hitting replay on the first level and starting to question if the game had enough depth!? haha. I'm glad I found the next level button. You managed to add just enough mechanics as the levels progressed to keep it interesting and challenging. Nice take on a necrodanceresque game!
