Pigeon Ascent by Delta Key
PIGEON ASCENT
In Pigeon Ascent, take care of your own pigeon as they fight increasingly stronger foes, and then facing the legendary Pigeon God at the end... can you keep death far from your bird?
Inspired by games such as La Brute, Tamagochi and a little bit of Pokémon, Pigeon Ascent is our game for Ludum Dare #46. I admit that we strayed a bit from the theme, but since we had tons of fun developing this game, we're quite happy with the result :)

Gameplay and controls:
The mouse is used for everything. The pigeons fight by themselves, but you can choose the attribute points and which enemies your pigeon will fight.

Changelog:
In the links below, you will find a version of the game where we fixed most bugs that were pointed in the comments. Thanks a lot to everyone for their feedback on the first version! It helped us a lot, and it was great to see so many comments. The changes for this version are:
- Fixed Hatoshi being the default evolution for the speed build;
- Fixed hit particles spawning at wrong spot;
- Fixed buying items not spending any gold;
- Fixed the retry button not showing up;
- Fixed the enemies level not reseting when trying again;
- Fixed the buffs not doing anything. Sorry about that!
Still, if you are interested in playing the first version uploaded, even with all its problems, you can do that here!

So um... potentially found 2 bugs in the game. First is that all the items in the shop are kind of "free", it doesn't actually charge me anything, so I kept buying boosts till what is seem above. 2nd is that even with all those stats I somehow got one-shot killed, which leads me to suspect that the bonus stats aren't taken into account too?
Aside from that though, really good game. Barely fits the theme of the jam, but I'd gladly play a full release of this game if it ever comes out :smile:
One bug(?) I encountered, my first pigeon reached the level 4/5 fights and then died, and when I went to make a new pigeon back at base stats it was still being put up against level 4 and 5 opponents. I had to refresh to actually start back at the beginning.
The dev work too is impressive! I am a dev myself and I wouldn't dare to imagine implementing all those features in one game jam. I found one single bug. Only *one* ! When your pigeon dies and you restart with another one, the level of the opposing pigeons is not reset to start at 1.
Amazing job, really :star2:
I do see the theme there, keeping it alive... while you make it fight to death! It's a cool take, and I gotta love the assets.
Some of the UI was tiny, whereas the other one was decently sized, so that would be a thing to improve, but I did like it quite a lot.
For some reason my pigeon evolved into one that looked like it had a platypus beak? Dunno, but I liked the guy. He was smashing.. until it got smashed.
Good job!
I must admit I don't have enough motivation to change the resolution of my screen to play the game, even if I wanted to play a pigeon fighting game :'(
Great graphics, I adored the pixel art and the silly pigeon names! It reminded me of pokemon! The music gets a bit repetitive, but otherwise, this is a great game! Good job!
Had a lot of fun with it! The evolution-aspect is definitely what kept me interested after dying the first time around and the Food mechanic is such a neat concept and makes stall builds actually work!
Loved the graphics, and all the variations of pigeon. I was impressed when my pigeon evolved arms, but I was sad I didn't get to play as the pigeon god. :frowning:
Great job!
It's impossible not to keep the name Pombo when you're brazillian :p
Loved all the jokes and the art was great! The Pokemon-style evolution was very well made and pigeon evolutions are very fun.
I felt it was becoming too difficult after a few levels but maybe it was just me (and sometimes I'd try to tackle a foe that was too strong). Maybe we could have more beatable options per level.
Let me just leave an obscure ptbr reference here:
Rinha de galo SIM
Apostar todo o dindin
Um galo matando o outro
Um galo matando o outro~ :musical_note:
The graphics are sometime scaled a bit weirdly with some really small text and inconsistent sprite sizing - standardising this and adding some more flair to the battle screen would be great. Some sound effects of the pigeons attacking would up the humor as well.
