Time Break by Ivan Garcia Filho

[raw]
made by Ivan Garcia Filho for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

ClockBanner.gif A classic traditional platformer. BUT! You can't finish the level by simply finishing the level. You are stuck in a time loop on the only level the game has. If you would like to explore the game by youself, dont keep reading ahead. I will briefly explain what the game is about and how ir works.

Beholder.gif

WARNING How the game works: The game is like a traditional platformer but once you get to the end of the level, time stops. You can rewind time or go forward for the whole path you walked since the beginning. But, whenever you choose to stop, that will be the starting point and if you rewind time again you will get to that point and not rewind anymore. You can only rewind time once you reach the end of the level. While you are rewinding pay attention to the level and you will see elements appearing and disappearing that weren't there before. That's because depending on where you choose to stop on the path you walked, you are triggering different timelines of the level and new elements are appearing, once you stop rewind time these elements will be permanent till the end of the game. At each stage that you can rewind and trigger a different timeline, an enemy in the format of a box will appear, if you defeat that enemy you can collect an item. You need 4 of these items that these box-like enemies will spill out once they are dead. Once you get the 4, you can go to the end of the level and time will not rewind anymore. The game will finish and restart itself again.

Web version not working mate :(

Edit: it worked now :)
Really nice graphics! Not entirely sure how that time mechanic worked? I did the level a couple of times and back but never got any hourglasses.

Controls could have a little better aswell but was OK when you got a hang of it.

Good work!

@dangerblack Hey! Yes it has a windows version to download! Just roll down the itch.io page and you will see a download button! Weird that it has given you a 404, can you try again?

Hey, I played the web version and sure if it is only there or it is problem with my internet, but the game was very slow and unresponsive :( Otherwise I loved it, I love the art, the music, the idea, everything :)

Really liking what I saw. The controls could have been a little more responsive but the mood and gameplay worked pretty well. I would have liked to use the mouse for rewinding time. Overall great entry :)

@shosanna Thanks! Yes the game is a little heavy, but there is a windows version available to download!

@appoxgames It may be because the game is a little heavy! Try the Windows version

Cool idea for a game! The sounds and mood for the game were good, but felt like getting on top of platforms was a bit difficult sometimes. Would also be cool if the rewinding of time were a bit faster, but overall a fun little game!

p.s. the web version worked for me.

This was cool. Really liked the portal effect on the clock and the chest enemy bubbles. Well done!

Yeah now I manage to play it!
It's really cool! I love the level design and the graphics!
The concept is quite interesting to explore, remind me some other games I've played in the past!
Sometimes you can get stuck in the hole in the center of the map and you can only kill yourself, its a bit sad...

Visually, it looks great! I love the way different timelines pop in and out of existence. My only complaint would be that the actual gameplay suffers for being done in such a short period of time  platforming mechanics in a jam are a big enough ask as it is, and your combat is a little bit lacking. I would also have liked to see a menu :grimacing: however, for something that was done in a short period of time, those are **completely** excusable! Good job  oh and the music and sound effects fit the game really well :muscle:

Great visual, interesting way to manage with the subject, great idea about choosing when to end the rewind etc, the overall experience is really fun and I will keep the game in a folder to play it more !

Thanks @harry-alissavakis !!! I did just the environment and level design (not so proud, because I intended something more populated that could spark some curiosity on players and tell more about the world and the narrative), all of the visual effects, camera scripting (using cinemachine of course), and part of the articial intelligence (something that I'm not so proud of too xD)

I love the burping chest. That was pretty funny. The idea of rewinding a loop and seeing all the new mobs pop up as you rewind is pretty interesting. The one thing I didn't like was the Z button for attack. Especially while using W,A,S,D. Using arrow keys it felt more natural to use Z to attack, but not by much. Maybe it would be good to have a second attack key. Also the load time was not great for the browser version. Once loaded it seemed to work fine, but while it was loading it froze up the graphics on my PC, which was odd.

Pretty cool. Fun little game with an awesome mechanic added! It was a little tough to figure out how to properly use the time thing at first but after a couple tries I started figuring it out.

Neat game! Great to see more 3D games in the jam! Interesting concept. The art and music worked well together. The jump were a little hard for me. I kept falling to my death and having to start over :(

I enjoyed the rewind concept, if I miss a chest is it always too late to go back for it? I didn't understand if there was a relationship between the rewind ration and when chests pop up or if this was related to the player position in the level?

Nice ambient. The 3D art is clean and the character is moving well. But I find the Level Design a bit confuse. It's not easy to understand where we can progress with the jump on the border. In my humble opinion it need more clear paths. And sometimes the whole part of the ground disappear.(Perhaps because of the clip camera settings?). Anyway, the clock and the effects at the end are very well made. Then the concept of going back with new elements poping make sense with the theme. You have a good concept. With some gameplay improvement and some work on the LD, it must be a very cool game!
