Deep Space Mining by Hoshi
Deep Space Mining - Play as an eager but pennyless mining magnate. Start by taking a loan to buy your first ship(s), then gradually build up your Net Worth as you expand your mining empire !
But beware ! Pirates might take an interest if you grow too big...
Made by Marc "Hoshi" Jacob (Game Design & Code) and Martin "Permilias" Jacob (Graphics & UI Design) on Unity.
Spent around 35h on this game, total. I do plan on working on the game further after the jam (obviously the jam version will be separate from the version on which I'll add more features, I'm no cheater). Such features would include but not be limited to :
- Radar to show what's present around the ship outside view (to get a better idea of the situation, where the pirates are...)
- Proper NPC management interface :
- Configure the behavior of your miners and fighters.
- Assign them to zones or fleets
- Dynamic fleet system (and fleet of fleets...) for easier mass control and real empire building
- Dynamic station building & destruction
- Dynamic economy (based on supply, demand, and inflation) with production and resource consumption (ships will no longer be spawned from thin air).
- NPC factions with dynamic diplomacy, territory control...
- Astronomical scale : add a warp drive to warp to other sectors of the map.
- Add more sectors.
- More ship sizes (Fighter < Frigate < Destroyer < Cruiser < Battlecruiser < Battleship < Capital)
- More ship types (haulers, radar ships, construction ships, support ships)
- Dynamic equipment fitting system
I'll be streaming the development (just as I did during the event), and maybe some gaming too, at : https://www.twitch.tv/hoshiqua.

Then I got some of the cruisers and made sure to stock up on some combat ships as well. A warning of pirates followed. Then the pirates came and killed everyone while my combat ships seemingly didn't do much in return? I supposed I should've piloted ships myself in order to fight back, so I did and immediately got blown up by a swarm of pirates.
I feel like there's more meat to this game from a management standpoint, and wish that was fleshed out a little over having the ability to fly ships myself.
Very addicting!
But: Please add a feature (after the jam) to zoom out, it would be so cool to see the action!
The buying a pilot feature was really nice cause I could just send as many as I could out and make alot of profit! At least before I got attacked :P
@flaterectomy I think the main problem is that, yea, I attempted to go for the "do it yourself / hire someone to do it" balance right away, and that might have been a mistake. Should maybe have concentrated on the management element for the Jam release. I suspect adding a ship management interface (maybe a log telling you X or Y ship died / engaged in battle), aswell as a radar map to get a better view of the situation would be enough to more or less solve that problem. Thank you for your detailed feedback.
@weiiswurst You can already zoom in / out, maybe I should have specified that in the start menu... Or do you mean to be able to zoom out really far and get a "strategic view" of the area ? Thank you for your feedback !
@scottdev @addnone Thank you ! :)
Great job
@weiiswurst It's scrollwheel !
@bocodillo Management needs a LOT of work. Eventually I want the player to be able to really build up a complex organisation, with synchronizations, conditional orders and also by naming commanding subordinates and giving them broader goals. Hell, maybe the player could himself work for someone else ? So many possibilities !
@amigopadilha Huehuehuehuehuehueheuheuehueheueheuhe One way of dealing with pirates is to delay their arrival by willingly indebting yourself more to keep your net worth down. Also taking more loans to quickly hire combat pilots is not a bad idea.
